49ers 2020 Season Win Total Prediction by Quarter

After a significant rebuilding phase a couple of seasons back, the San Francisco 49ers really came into their own last season. They won the NFC championship and came within a couple of touchdowns of winning Super Bowl LIV.  Based on last years’ results and some of the new changes the team has made, we’ll make predictions of the outcomes of each game that they have on their itinerary and keep track of their record. After that we’ll see how our predictions compare with their regular season wins lines in our sportsbook. Let’s take a look at their record from last season before diving in.

FIRST QUARTER 2020

San Francisco will kick off its 2020 season at home against the Arizona Cardinals. Despite going through a bit of a rebuilding phase this off-season, the Cardinals have not made the playoffs since 2015. Even with their acquisition of all-world receiver DeAndre Hopkins, it won’t be enough to defeat the 49ers. Week 2 San Francisco hits the road and will play the New York Jets. The Jets ended up under .500 last season and are looking to improve under second-year head coach Adam Gase and third-year QB Sam Darnold. This game should be a relatively easy one for San Francisco to win.

Heading into Week 3, the 49ers will stay in New York to play against the Giants. New York has failed to make it to the playoffs since 2016 and has been working on building up its team. The 49ers are going to run circles around the Giants’ mediocre offensive line this game and win their third straight. Week 4 they head back home where they will play against the Philadelphia Eagles. Carson Wentz is going to have a tough time against San Francisco’s elite pass defense. Although the 49ers may have a little trouble running the ball this game, Jimmy Garappolo will be throwing passes into the endzone to Philadelphia’s chagrin. San Francisco will win this one and go undefeated in the first quarter of the season.

 Record: 4-0

SECOND QUARTER 2020

The 49ers will kick off the second quarter of the season at home against the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins will be one of the more interesting teams to watch in 2020. They had a massive rebuild in the offseason picking up free agents and a draft pick. Despite the improvements, it will be too early in the season for them to get enough playing time together to topple a team like San Francisco. Week 6, the 49ers will have their biggest challenge of the year so far against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams went all the way to the Super Bowl in 2018 and although last season they couldn’t repeat that success, they are still one of the best teams in the West. Although San Francisco is a better team overall, it’s a lot to ask any team to win six in a row and they will likely have a hiccup against Los Angeles after a long winning streak.

Week 7, the 49ers head back to the East Coast where they will face a very new-looking New England Patriots. It goes without saying that the Patriots created one of the greatest dynasties in the NFL with Tom Brady at the helm. With Brady now gone, 2020 will be a very different season for them. They ended up 12-4 last year, similar to the 49ers. Despite years of success, San Francisco will outclass them this season and will be hungry for a win after losing to the Rams. The following week they will play against the Seattle Seahawks. Led by Russell Wilson on offense, he’s matured into one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He’ll be throwing passes to DK Metcalf all game long, eventually wearing down San Francisco and beating them.

Record: 2-2

THIRD QUARTER 2020

Starting out the second half of the season, the Niners will host the Green Bay Packers. Last year the Packers had a breakout season after a disappointing 2018. They finished 2019 13-3, winning the NFC North division championship in the process. Five Packers earned a Pro Bowl berth last year, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Despite the positive stats, San Francisco beat Green Bay twice last season and outscored them 74-28. There’s just too big a gap here and we’re giving this one to the 49ers. Week 10 they head to New Orleans where they will play the Saints. Led by quarterback Drew Brees, they will be looking to break into the playoffs this season. They’re looking strong in 2020 with 11 players named to the Pro Bowl team last year. Overall this looks to be a tough game, but the 49ers will inch them out in the end.

Week 11 will be a bye for San Francisco. The following week the 49ers will face the LA Rams for a second time but will emerge the victors this game after suffering a defeat versus the Rams earlier in the season. Week 13, they will play against the Buffalo Bills, who ended last season at 10-6. The Bills have made a name for themselves as a strong defensive team the last couple of seasons and 2020 will be no exception. Last season they averaged 16.5 points allowed per game, the second-lowest in the NFL. They’ll try their best to slow down San Francisco, but ultimately will be outclassed this game.

Record: 4-0

FOURTH QUARTER 2020

San Francisco will start off its last leg of the season against the Washington Football Team. Washington finished last season with an abysmal 3-13 record, the exact inverse of the 49ers. They’ll have a new head coach, but it won’t be enough to overcome a powerhouse like San Francisco. Week 14, the 49ers head to Texas and face the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys ended their season 8-8 despite a strong 3-0 start. Leading the offense is a skilled quarterback, Dak Prescott. Dallas won’t have what it takes this late in the season to take down the 49ers, who will be hungry to clinch their division.

The last two games of the season will be divisional rematches, first with the Arizona Cardinals and then against the Seattle Seahawks. They’ll outclass the Cardinals again, but this season we think the Seahawks are looking strong and will have San Francisco’s number, edging them out for the second time in 2020.

Record: 3-1

Final Record: 13-3

After making a run all the way to the Super Bowl last year, the 49ers are going to be hungry for more. They are even-money favorites to win their division and have the potential to win the Super Bowl, or at least go deep into the playoffs. Here is a look at the latest Super Bowl Odds.

BetUS currently has San Fran at -115 to go over 10½  regular-season wins and -115 to go under 10½  season wins. It seems that going with an over bet would be the pro move here.
