The race for the AFC title this coming season is shaping up to be one of the tightest and most exciting in quite some years, something that should have NFL betting lines fans on the edge of their seats, even with the regular season still a couple of weeks away.
With the Kansas City Chiefs looking to repeat as conference champions, which teams could give them a true run for the crown?
Introducing Your AFC Betting Lines Favorites
I can’t honestly remember a time when the AFC was so overly stacked with conference title favorites and contenders. Unlike other seasons, for 2024, each division has at least one team that could very well end up representing their conference in the Super Bowl. If that already doesn’t get you excited for what’s to come in a few weeks, then I don’t know what could.
Let’s start out in the AFC West, for example, where the two-time reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs, at +325, are sitting comfortably atop our 2024 AFC title odds rankings. Just by having Patrick Mahomes, a perennial favorite in our odds to win the regular-season MVP award, ready to fire on all cylinders, Travis Kelce – Taylor Swift’s man, who just happens to be the best tight end in the game – and legendary coach Andy Reid, that’s enough to make any team an automatic favorite.
With a hunger for vengeance that’s palpable throughout the conference, if I were the Chiefs, my eyes would be set on Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. After Mahomes and Co. were responsible for putting a dagger in Baltimore’s dominant season that saw the Ravens make it to the conference title game as the No. 1 seed, it makes perfect sense. But leaving vendettas aside, looking at Baltimore’s roster, its playoff pedigree, the addition of Derrick Henry to an already stacked offense and Jackson ready for another MVP-caliber season, who’s stopping Baltimore this season?
Wait, did somebody ask who’s stopping the Ravens this season? Oh yeah, it was me. Well, speaking of stopping Baltimore, with +700 odds, let me introduce Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals (hold for applause). With one of the most explosive offenses in the league when healthy, alongside some strong defensive additions to bolster an underwhelming pass rush unit, I would be shaking in my cleats if I had to face Cincinnati this season.
Up Next on Stage, Our Other AFC Title Contenders
Now that we got the powerhouse favorites out of the way, let’s talk about this season’s NFL betting odds contenders for the AFC title: the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, New York Jets and Miami Dolphins.
With the Bills, it’s a given they’ll always be favorites as long as Josh Allen is around. But with a roster that took some very serious hits, losing players like Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, and the competition in the AFC East as hot as ever, those +750 odds might seem too low.
Up next, a team I would definitely keep an eye on for NFL betting purposes this season – the Texans with +800 odds. With CJ Stroud leading the pack and head coach DeMeco Ryans ready for another go at making Houston a title-chasing football city, those days of taking the Texans as an easy team to squash are long gone.
Heading back east, with +1000 and +1100 odds, respectively, welcome the Jets and Dolphins to the frey. Besides sharing a division, if there’s one pivotal thing that both teams can relate to when it comes to the race for the conference title, it’s that their hopes will most likely be relying solely on what their QBs can do and if they can stay healthy.
It’s no secret the Jets need Aaron Rodgers to step up and do what he was supposed to in 2024 before being lost in the season opener. And for Miami, while Tyreek Hill is a beast and Jaylen Waddle is a yard-raking machine, all their hopes will run through Tua Tagovailoa and what he can bring to the field.

On to AFC Title Odds Pretenders
Favorites? Check. Contenders? Check. On to this season’s AFC title pretenders! Teams like the Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland Browns with +2000 odds, Pittsburgh Steelers with +2200 odds, Jacksonville Jaguars with +2500 odds, Indianapolis Colts with +3000 odds and the Las Vegas Raiders with +5000 odds make up the list of teams that, while not quite up there yet, could still be an enticing NFL pick for adventurous bettors.
The biggest question mark in the conference revolves around how much of an immediate impact Jim Harbaugh will have on the LA Chargers. Considering his signing with LA was one of the biggest NFL news this offseason, last season’s College Football Playoff’s title-winning coach will have to hit the ground running in order to avoid critics flooding him and his team. As far as the Raiders go, with Antonio Pierce in his first full season as head coach, everything is too up in the air right now to give a yay or nay on the Silver and Black.
Over in the AFC North, both Cleveland and Pittsburgh would love nothing more than to spoil Baltimore and Cincinnati’s plans. And considering how intense the level of competition within the AFC North usually is, with physicality and viciousness, I would not dare sleep on both of these squads.
Lastly, down south, are two teams trying to give Houston a scare. While Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars could try and make their way back to prominence in their division, my money here is on the Colts, and especially a returning Anthony Richardson, who with +650 odds to win NFL Comeback Player of the Year, will be fired up to show the league what he can do with a full bill of health.
Sorry Broncos, Patriots and Titans, No Title Shot For You.
Sharing equal +10000 odds to win the AFC title, I don’t think there’s much to say here about the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. With all three teams stuck in divisions that hold a who’s who of previously mentioned favorites and pretenders, it’s hard to find some sort of magical answer to give hope here.
Both the Broncos and Patriots are entering this season with more doubts than answers, with the added pressure of potentially having rookie QBs in line to take over their offenses. And with the Titans, it’s very hard to believe a team that just let their biggest weapon on offense leave to another conference rival is going to find a way to miraculously bounce back and take over their division. I’m sorry, Tennessee fans, but it’s not going to happen.
So for now, as we wait for the action to start, if you want one last NFL betting prediction, don’t count on Denver, New England or Tennessee winning the AFC title this season.
