Back Texans, Bet Against Titans in AFC South

  • Tennessee’s Will Levis has completed just 58.5 percent of his passes in his career.
  • Houston’s CJ Stroud has engineered three game-winning drives in his career.

C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans will look to take their next step toward winning consecutive AFC South division titles when they host Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears in Week 2. Will Levis will be under a ton of pressure when the Tennessee Titans host Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Sunday?

Both matchups offer a bunch of value in the BetUS football sportsbook against their respective Week 2 NFL betting odds next weekend. Now, let’s find out why!

2 Betting Picks for AFC South in Week 2

1. Texans (-7) Await Caleb Williams, Bears

Chicago managed to get past Tennessee 24-17 in its regular-season opener on Sunday, but it wasn’t because highly touted quarterback Caleb Williams lit up the Titans with a performance for the ages.

To say that Williams, the No. 1 overall draft pick in this year’s draft, was underwhelming would be putting it mildly. The Heisman Trophy winner out of USC went an ugly 14 of 29 for 93 yards with a passer rating just over the speed limit (55.7).

It was a frustrating game,” Williams said. “But the most important thing is that it shows a bunch of the personality of this team, I would say — the fight, the resiliency that we had.”

The Bears shut out Tennessee in the second half and got a 43-yard pick-six from cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, but the likelihood of both happening against the Texans and C.J. Stroud is very slim in this matchup.

Houston got its 2024 campaign started on the right foot by getting past Indianapolis 29-27 on Sunday despite failing to cover the NFL online betting odds as a field-goal road favorite. Second-year quarterback threw two touchdown passes to veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs while running back Joe Mixon rushed for 159 yards and another score.

Williams might possess a ton of natural talent that has many observers comparing him to Patrick Mahomes, but he also has a penchant for going off-script and making dangerous and inaccurate throws.

Houston has won four of the last six meetings against Chicago and the Bears are an ugly 2-11 in their last 13 road games. The Texans have won seven of their last nine home games and are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six meetings against Chicago.

I like Houston, one of the top AFC Super Bowl contenders, to win by at least a touchdown as Stroud continues to take care of the ball and the Texans’ defense forces Williams into at least one costly mistake and possibly two.

Prediction: Texans 27, Bears 17

2. All Bets Off for Titans (+4) vs Jets

The Jets might be coming off a humbling 32-19 road loss against San Francisco on Monday night, but that only fuels my belief that Aaron Rodgers and Co. are going to crush Tennessee in Week 2 to cover the ATS betting spread with a double-digit win on Sunday.

The fact of the matter is that Titans quarterback Will Levis is pretty damned awful. Yes, the second-round pick in last year’s draft possesses a powerful arm, but we all know that a strong arm doesn’t mean much if you don’t have the processing power to read defense – and Levis is undoubtedly lacking in that department.

Levis went 19 of 32 for 132 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Tennessee’s 24-17 loss against Chicago on Sunday. One of Levis’ interceptions was returned for a costly touchdown and the Titans were shut out in the second half.

Levis will face a Jets team that finished third in total defense a year ago, second against the pass and 10th in points allowed (20.9 PPG) while playing a ton of minutes because of their poor offense.

I’m expecting New York’s defense to get after Levis early and often in this affair to help the Jets improve on their dominant 8-2 ATS mark against the Titans in their last 10 meetings.

Prediction: Jets 27, Titans 14
