  • Our Bears vs Vikings expert picks side with the underdog.

The Chicago Bears punctuated their seven-game losing skid with an embarrassing performance against San Francisco. Chicago managed just 162 total yards against the 49ers and lost 38-13. As such, the public is avoiding Chicago, as seen with the disparity in NFL picks. But the Minnesota Vikings are also tough to trust as a wide favorite. For this Monday Night Football matchup, the best bet may be going under the total.

2 Betting Picks for Bears vs Vikings

1. Offenses Go Low and Under the Total

Chicago’s offense, which is in ruins, faces one of the NFL’s best defenses. This would be a butt-whooping if not for the defense. Chicago’s D has not checked out entirely and could make this game lower scoring than anticipated. As such, we’re backing the total to go under 43.5 points in Monday Night Football picks even though Chicago did give up 38 points last game.

“I still trust our defensive coaches,” Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown said. “It’s all about us getting back to work, finding ways to put our guys in better spots to make plays.”

If we look at how five of the Bears’ last seven games have gone under the total, we can credit much of that to Chicago’s defense. The Bears have given up the 10th-fewest points (21.4 per game) and rank third in red-zone touchdown defense (46%). Chicago even held the Lions, the NFL’s mightiest offense, to 23 points.

The Vikings just scored 42 on Atlanta but it’s only the second time in their last seven games where they scored more than 23 points. Fair play, Minnesota dropped 30 on Chicago in their last meeting in an overtime win. But Sam Darnold is prone to pressure and this Bears team has generated the sixth-most takeaways (20).

Of course, we can bank on the Vikings’ defense to neutralize the Bears. Chicago scored 27 the last time but with the coaching changes, the Bears are in further disarray. It’s not a bold NFL prediction for the Bears to fail to score 20+ again. It’s happened five times during their seven-game skid.

With these strong defenses, we’re betting on the total to go under.

2. Have No Fear, Bet the Bears to Cover

A bet online on the Bears following last week may feel akin to money down the toilet. But hear us out. Chicago will not have a consecutive stinker like that one in San Francisco. Secondly, the team has played well against the division. The Bears have lost by no more than three points in each of their three NFC North matchups.

Chicago had a chance to win each of those games, even the one against Detroit. The Bears may have lost every road game this season (and eight straight since last season) but they’ve covered in seven of their last Monday Night Football games.

Additionally, Minnesota is not the best at covering division games. Per Bears vs Vikings betting tips, Minnesota is just 1-5-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last seven vs NFC North teams. The Vikings; last three divisional matchups this season were all decided by three points or fewer. In fact, all but one NFC North tilts were by this margin.

Minnesota has also not blown out many teams this season. It edged Arizona by a point and beat Jacksonville by only five points in a game where the Vikings failed to score a touchdown. The Vikings may also be +8 in turnover differential thanks to a ball-hawking defense (leads the NFL in interceptions). But the offense is turnover-prone with 19 giveaways this season.

This is not the makeup of a team we’re willing to lay a touchdown for. We’re not super confident in Chicago, either. But giving seven points in a divisional tilt with defenses adept at forcing mistakes? Bet Chicago to cover in NFL picks against the spread.

Bet on Chicago Bears +7 (-120)
