Bet on Panthers to Emerge Victorious in Second Catfight

Carolina Ready to Outduel Detroit in Potentially Ugly Affair

In another cat-themed preseason game, the NFL lines have the Carolina Panthers favored for good reason. It’s not that Carolina is a world-beater, it’s just that Detroit’s offense has looked awful. Jared Goff, the team’s starting quarterback, is not playing. The team’s backups have been subpar at best, and the running game did nothing. Thus, Carolina should outdo what little offense the Detroit Lions can muster.

Lions Offense Should Be Better

The Lions played one of their worst games last week. It was far from the ideal return for Teddy Bridgewater, who the team signed to compete with Nate Sudfeld to back up Goff. But neither earned much confidence after combining for just 114 passing yards. Bridgewater was rusty after not playing since getting hurt with Miami in 2022.

Detroit also just managed 131 total yards. The Jacksonville Jaguars rushed for more. The team also converted on just one of its 12 third downs. Stats like this won’t cut it, even if Detroit plays a team that may not be as good as Jacksonville in Carolina. Still, “it can only go up from here.

The Lions did move the ball well in a 21-16 win over the New York Giants. So there is worth in betting online on this team. Bridgewater should also be a bit better in his second outing.

Young Panthers Ready to Roll

Speaking of the Giants, the Panthers lost to them last week. Bryce Young completed 3-of-6 passes in his limited time on the field. But head coach Frank Reich said he wants to get Young and the starters more reps this Friday. So is it time to go all in on Carolina?

Young is a future star and looks poised as he’s going through his reads. The issue is the offense around him. The offensive line can struggle to buy him time, while his receivers are not the greatest. Still, Young and the first team could do damage.

Carolina is 5-3 on both the moneyline and against the spread (ATS) in its last eight preseason games. The Panthers are a solid NFL pick, especially since this offense might just be more explosive than Detroit’s.

Panthers Own Their Home Against Lions

Carolina has won six straight home games facing Detroit. The Panthers are also 4-1 ATS in their last five games against the Lions. Last season, four of Carolina’s last five regular-season games went over the total.

Lions vs Panthers Game Predictions

Predicted Score: Panthers 20 Lions 17

Go Panthers on the Moneyline

Given the sportsbook’s odds, -200 is a decent price for the Panthers. Carolina will use its starters more, which gives it a big edge over Detroit and its second teams. Thus, Carolina could build an early lead and not look back.

Lions Battle the Spread

But in terms of the spread, the Lions could be the better pick. After Carolina’s starters leave, the Lions’ second and third units could outperform Carolina’s. Detroit might just win the second half and cover its +4½-point spread.

Catfight Leads to Low Total

We’re not entirely convinced that Detroit or Carolina can deliver potent scoring. There is a chance it happens, but the total is just 37 for a reason. Even with Carolina’s starters playing more, don’t expect a high-scoring game. Either bet the ‘under’ or pass.
