  • Buffalo can beat New England even with most of its starters resting

Buffalo visits New England to cap off its surprisingly successful season. The NFL odds peg the Bills as favorites by a field goal, though this is a tricky number given the team’s status. Per head coach Sean McDermott, the Bills will rest many of their starters. And while quarterback Josh Allen will start, he’ll likely sit for most of the game. Still, the money should be on Buffalo.

4 Bills vs Patriots Bets for NFL Week 18

1. Buffalo Bills ML (-145)

Buffalo will win this game even if Allen only plays a few snaps. Mitchell Trubisky is a former Pro Bowler and one of the best backup QBs. He’ll manage the team with a solid receiver corps and a nifty trio of running backs and get the “dub.” We’re betting online on Buffalo to win while the line is where it is.

The Bills have had the Patriots’ number since Tom Brady left town. They’ve won eight of their last 10 matchups overall and six of their last seven in Foxborough. Per NFL betting trends, Buffalo has also won seven straight contests against AFC opponents.

Its only conference losses this season came against Baltimore and Houston, two playoff teams. The Patriots are subpar regardless of who starts. It’s “Bills or pass” for the moneyline.

2. Buffalo Bills ATS -3

The Bills should also cover against the Patriots even at a field goal. If New England starts Drake Maye, and this is uncertain given the NFL news, this can get tricky. Maye gives the Patriots a better shot than Jacoby Brissett.

And following a 40-7 drubbing at the hands of the Chargers, Jerod Mayo should have the team fired up. But we still don’t buy it. And one thing to consider when making NFL predictions is that the Patriots will wrap up the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft with a loss.

New England will put up a better fight here. But Buffalo is significantly better and Mayo has already worn out his welcome even if his job is likely safe. The home crowd may also be sparse or even hostile toward Mayo. It’s hard to see New England covering even against Buffalo’s backups. Bet Buffalo against the NFL spread.

3. Game Prop: Total Touchdowns – Over 3.5

Just because this game will feature backups playing doesn’t mean we can’t get at least four touchdowns here. The Bills have a deep roster, as seen by how many different receivers have found the end zone. And Joe Brady has proven his chops as a creative offensive coordinator.

Meanwhile, the Patriots could also score a few TDs, with some likely coming in garbage time. Betting over 3.5 touchdowns could be the shrewder NFL pick outside the total.

4. Bills vs Patriots Over 38

Buffalo is not the same offensive juggernaut without Josh Allen. But Trubisky can still lead this team to score 20+ points and make the total go over. Per Bills vs Patriots stats, he completed 4 of 5 passes for a touchdown and no picks in relief of Allen this season. It’s a small sample size, but he’s spent two seasons with the Bills and won’t be too rusty.

The Bills average 29.4 points as a visitor while the Patriots score 18.4 as a host. While Allen and many starters will sit, this also includes the defense. Either Maye or Brissett will move the chains against Buffalo’s backups. Our NFL prediction is for this one to go over as the 38 points are a tad too low.
