I’ve highlighted one matchup featuring an underdog worth considering for this NFL Upsets of the Week edition.
Not only do I like the trends attached to the Chicago Bears as underdogs, but even Mother Nature is helping us with what could be a weekend of awful weather in the Windy City.
While bad weather isn’t good for anyone, the Bears are at least used to it. Plus, bad weather makes for a lot of unpredictable plays, bad bounces, and unforeseen outcomes. Just what we want when laying money on an underdog.
So forget spreads, totals, or NFL player props for Sunday; I’m gunning for underdog value in the Midwest.
Lions and Bears, Oh My
When I saw the NFL lines break for this game, I immediately put the Chicago Bears at the top of my list of playable underdogs for Week 14. Several factors lead me to believe in the Bears on Sunday, with one of them being the weather.
I’m no meteorologist, but word on the street is that, sometimes, the weather in Chicago can get a bit windy. And if Jared Goff is on your fantasy team, the weather should be something to worry about.
The cause for concern is that Goff has played 12 games in his career when the kickoff temperature is below 40°. In those 12 starts, Goff has 10 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a poor passer rating. I realize that almost every player on the field is hindered by bad weather, and their stats will suffer as a result, but Goff’s numbers suggest he struggles a bit more.
Regarding the Bears, they don’t play in a dome and won’t be as affected by any adverse weather, but cold rain sucks for everyone and won’t do anyone on the field any favors.
After losing to the Detroit Lions 31-26 in Week 11, Chicago will get a shot at a revenge win. This was a game NFL betting fans should have seen the Bears win, but their defense collapsed and blew a 12-point lead in the final three minutes. It was one of the most brutal meltdowns I’ve seen in a while, and my heart goes out to everyone who had money on Chicago and had to watch it live. #ThoughtsAndPrayers.
With Detroit’s defense struggling of late, allowing 26 or more points to each of their previous four opponents, they are vulnerable to the Bears’ crushing ground-and-pound style of play.
The NFL odds list the Bears at +120 today, and I’m all over it.
Upset NFL Pick: Chicago Bears +120
Question Of The Day
Which upsets of Week 14 could provide the biggest payouts?
The game listed above, DET vs CHI, is the upset in Week 14 that provides the best chance for strong payouts. We also like the value of the Los Angeles Rams beating the Baltimore Ravens outright.
