Commanders vs Lions Alternate Spread Picks: 2 Best Bets on Detroit Jan 18

This Washington Commanders vs Detroit Lions matchup on Saturday is a doozy. It was a tough task picking with the traditional lines. We favor Detroit to win but we can’t discount Washington after that scintillating upset over Tampa Bay.

Alternate, Total and Prop Picks for Commanders vs Lions

1. Detroit Alternate ATS -3.5 (-280)

We picked Detroit to win on the moneyline but for Washington to cover at +9.5 (which has moved to +10 now). The NFL alternate lines have a happy medium here with Detroit at -3.5. It’s -280, which is half of the -550 moneyline and is worth betting outside buying points on Detroit’s spread.

The Lions are still the better team here. Despite all their injuries, the Lions are almost fully healthy on offense. They have a significant edge on the front lines where their offensive line boasts two All-Pros and is ranked as the best in football. This will be how Detroit executes consistently against Washington.

Jared Goff doesn’t need to light up NFL scores. He just needs to take care of the ball as “Sonic and Knuckles” gash Washington. Detroit will control the clock and beat Washington by at least four points. All of Detroit’s home wins against non-division opponents have been by six or more points. Bet online against this Lions’ alternate spread.

Bet on Detroit Lions -3.5 (-280)

2. Commanders vs Lions ALT Under 50.5 (+175)

Betting Detroit to cover 3.5 points at -280 might still seem steep for many. Instead, look to the total going under 51 points at +175. Our NFL prediction is already against the 55.5 points since that is way too many points. All six Wild Card games went under 50 points last weekend.

This is the NFL playoffs where clock management and “dink and dunk” passes outweigh gun-slinging, high-scoring plays. Even with crazy Dan Campbell at the helm, we can’t see Detroit playing too recklessly. There is a chance Detroit blows out Washington, but also a chance it holds the Commanders to 20 points or fewer.

Per Commanders vs Lions stats, Washington only scored more than 23 points in three of its nine road games. These came against Arizona, Cincinnati, and the Giants, who finished 15th, 21st and 27th in scoring defense, respectively.

Detroit has vulnerabilities on defense but will keep this score low, especially with a deafening crowd to help. Take a shot on the alternate total to go under 50.5 points.

Bet on Commanders vs Lions ALT Under 50.5 (+175)

3. Prop: Jayden Daniels Under 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-134)

Speaking of Jayden Daniels, bet on him to go under his passing touchdowns in NFL player props. Under 1.5 touchdowns is already steamed at -134 but still holds value as he could get muted here. C.J. Stroud lit up Cleveland at a rookie last season but got neutralized by Baltimore, a “real” contender.

Daniels could meet the same fate against Detroit even with its glut of absences. The Lions have Kerby Joseph who leads the NFL with nine interceptions. Detroit’s 16 picks also ranks fifth in the NFL.

The crowd will be so raucous that it will cause miscommunication with Daniels and his offense. He’ll throw one or no touchdown passes. Bet under on Daniels’ passing TD line in NFL predictions.

Bet on Jayden Daniels Under 1.5 Passing TDs (-134)
