Go With Raiders Bet to KO Hobbled Chargers

Week 15 of the NFL season will begin with the 128th meeting between a pair of longtime rivals as the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. The Chargers will be without starting quarterback Justin Herbert, who was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday morning. The NFL betting lines are listing the host Raiders as the favorite in the second meeting of the season between the division rivals.

The Chargers are 3-3 on the road with the Raiders 4-3 at home this season. Both teams are just 1-2 against fellow AFC West teams.

The current NFL point spread has Las Vegas favored by three points. The home team has won each of the last five meetings between the Chargers and the Raiders.

Herbert will undergo season-ending surgery after injuring a finger in last week’s loss to Denver. Keenan Allen, who leads the NFL with 108 catches, did not practice on Monday while tight end Gerald Everett was a limited participant. The Chargers are already without edge rusher Joey Bosa and receiver Mike Williams. Defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia, linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga, and cornerback Deane Leonard are questionable.

For the Raiders, leading rusher Josh Jacobs as well as offensive linemen Kolton Miller and Andre James are questionable.

When looking at the NFL futures odds, the Chargers (+300) were second only to the Kansas City Chiefs in the odds of winning the AFC West title coming into the season while the Raiders (+1400) had the longest odds of winning the AFC West title. The Chargers are now priced at +10000 and the Raiders come in at +12500 in the AFC West division odds.

Who Is Easton Stick?

Not only has Herbert played in every game over the last three seasons, he has been on the field for 3,191 of 3,250 offensive snaps over the last 47 regular season games.

The Chargers will turn to 28-year-old Easton Stick for the rest of the season. He was 13 of 24 for 179 yards in relief of Herbert in the loss to Denver. It was his first regular-season appearance since completing his only pass in a 39-29 win over Jacksonville in 2020.

Keep an eye on the availability of Allen as that would make Stick’s first NFL start all the more challenging

Offense Stuck in Neutral for Raiders

The move to fire Josh McDaniels has done little to address the issues on offense for the Raiders.

Las Vegas has scored four offensive touchdowns over the last four games. In a Week 14 loss to Minnesota, the Raiders managed just eight first downs with two of them coming on fourth-down plays. The Raiders ran just seven plays in Minnesota territory in the game and one of those resulted in a costly fumble.

The offensive struggles spoiled a strong effort on defense. This is nothing new as the Raiders are 28th in scoring offense, 29th in total offense and last in the NFL in rushing yards per game. An average of six points per game in the second half is among the worst in the NFL.

The Raiders have been outscored 49-19 in the second half in their last five losses.

Chargers vs Raiders Head-to-Head

Herbert ran for two scores and threw for another as the Chargers led 24-7 at halftime. Asante Samuel intercepted Aidan O’Connell’s pass with 2:38 left to clinch the 24-17 win. The game fell under the 49½-point total and it was the third straight game between the teams to finish under the total. The Chargers covered as 6½-point favorites.

The Raiders have won three of the last four home games against the Chargers.

Chargers vs Raiders Game Prediction

Predicted Score: Raiders 20, Chargers 17

Worth Betting the Moneyline?

This is a tough game to predict. The injury bug is feasting on the Chargers this season and not having Herbert is a huge blow. The Easton Stick versus Aidan O’Connell quarterback matchup is not what those who bet online were anticipating when the NFL schedule came out.

This feels like an elimination game. Both teams are sledding uphill in the AFC playoff race but the loser of this game could really be on the outside looking in when it comes to the postseason picture.

NFL Pick: Las Vegas Raiders (-160)

Worth Betting ATS?

Unless the line moves to 3½ or 4, go with the team winning outright to also cover in this game. That has been the case in the last 15 meetings between the Chargers and Raiders.

When it comes to the NFL betting odds for this game, keep in mind that the Chargers have covered in just one of their last five games.

NFL Pick: Las Vegas Raiders -3

Worth Betting on the Totals?

A 33½ total is incredibly tempting, especially in a series where the lowest total in the last seven matchups has been 49. Don’t expect an offensive masterpiece, but the teams should be able to muster up enough offense to go over 34 points.

The fact that 10 of the last 11 games played by the Chargers went under the Las Vegas NFL odds total, as did five of the last six games played by the Raiders, might be a cause for concern. However, five of the last eight games for the Raiders would have gone over 33½ points, as would 12 of the last 16 games played by the Chargers.

NFL Pick: Over 34
