Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings: NFL Week 1 Over Under Pick

NFC North rivals will be facing off against each other in Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season as the Green Bay Packers will be taking on the Minnesota Vikings. Each of these teams is looking to build upon a successful season after both made the postseason last year.

The Green Bay Packers had made it all the way to the NFC Championship, falling short to the San Francisco 49ers 37-20. Meanwhile, the Vikings, who also made the playoffs, won a game at New Orleans before losing in the Divisional Round. Both teams have +1000 odds to win the NFC Conference this coming season in our online sportsbook.

The Minnesota Vikings are three-point favorites entering the matchup against the Packers, but they lost to the Packers twice in the regular season last year, scoring a total of 26 points. Can they get their offense going and cover the spread here? The current -120 price tag showing in our NFL Week 1 odds suggests that a majority of the NFL betting public thinks so at this time. If it keeps trending in that direction, we might even see the line move to 3.5. Check out BetUS for more online sports betting.

Green Bay Packers Offense

The offense usually hasn’t been a struggle for the Green Bay Packers with Aaron Rodgers at the helm. He always finds ways to get the ball moving and, with other star players such as running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Davante Adams, they are primed to have another successful offensive run. However, they ranked only 14th in total points per game, which could be cause for concern.

Green Bay Packers Defense

The Packers defense was a big surprise last year. They ranked 12th in points allowed per game and helped bring the team to the NFC Championship game. They held opposing quarterbacks to a 59.7 completion percentage, third-best in the NFL.

Minnesota Vikings Offense

The Minnesota Vikings are coming off of an interesting season. Many fans were uneasy with Kirk “You Like That?!?” Cousins being the starting quarterback for another year, but he proved doubters wrong yet again, throwing just six interceptions.

Their offense struggled at times due to the health of some of their star players, like wide receiver Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook, but when all of their players were healthy, they were effective. They ranked 11th overall in points per game. We’ll have to see how they are in 2020 after trading receiver in Stefon Diggs and drafting Justin Jefferson out of LSU to be his replacement.

Minnesota Vikings Defense

The Vikings have relied on the strength of their defense behind defensive genius Mike Zimmer. Although they have made some changes on this side of the ball, they are still primed to be a defensive powerhouse yet again this upcoming season.

The Under is 9-0 in Green Bay’s last nine games against NFC North opponents, and the football gods will likely continue that trend in this matchup. For the Minnesota Vikings, the under is 26-9 in their last 35 games against divisional opponents. Another reason to take the Under, now set at 46 points.

The final reason to bet Under here: it has gone 6-0 in the last six meetings between these two teams in Minnesota. The two meetings last year only averaged 35.0 points per game, an 11-point swing from 46.

NFL Free Over Under Pick

The last two matchups between these two clubs were lower-scoring games, with the totals being 37 and 33 points. This game should be no different as neither team made any big changes offensively (outside of the Stefon Diggs trade). Due to them being in the same division, they should be very familiar with one another. Both teams will be looking to dominate ball control with their powerful run games, so this should be an under.

NFL Over/Under picks: Bet Under 46 points.
