Houston Texans: 2020 NFL Win Total by Quarters

The Houston Texans have the honor of playing in the first game of the 2020 NFL season. They have a tough matchup against the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 10 at Arrowhead Stadium. It will air on NBC at 8:20 p.m. ET. All preseason games were canceled due to NFL’s precautions towards COVID-19. Training camps looked different as well.

In a year that continuity means more than ever, the Houston Texans are returning 79.5% of their snaps from 2019. This puts them sixth on the continuity list ESPN put out in June. Coach Bill O’Brien is heading into his seventh season as the Texans’ coach. Starting QB Deshaun Watson is heading into his fourth year after being drafted 12th overall by Houston in 2017’s draft.

The Texan made some big moves this offseason trading four-time All-Pro WR DeAndre Hopkins for Arizona’s All-Pro RB David Johnson. The trade also saw an exchange of three draft picks in the upcoming NFL Drafts. The Texans also acquired WR Brandin Cooks in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams for a 2020 second-round pick (No. 57 overall) and a 2022 fourth-round pick.

  • Houston’s 2019 regular season record 10-6
  • 2020 projected regular-season win total – 7.5
  • Using win projections for strength of schedule, Houston ranks 16th toughest
  • Using opponents’ combined 2019 win percentage for SoS, Houston ranks T-8 toughest (.518)

Week 6 at Titans

The second week in a row the Texans take on an AFC South rival. The Titans surprised many people with their playoff run a year ago, where they defeated the Patriots and the Ravens on the road. The Texans and Titans split their two games in 2019. Houston won in Tennessee, 24-21, in Week 15. The Titans are projected at 8.5 regular-season wins for 2020.

Week 7 vs Packers

Green Bay is tied with the Steelers at +2400 odds to win Super Bowl LV. The Packers won 13 games in 2019 and lost in the NFC Championship game to the 49ers. They had a 6-2 record on the road. The Packers still have Aaron Rodgers and are expecting their defense to get better in 2020 without making any big changes. Our sportsbook has the Packers projected to win 8.5 regular-season games.

Week 11 vs Patriots

The Patriots lost Tom Brady to free agency this offseason and had multiple players opt-out of the season due to the pandemic. They signed Cam Newton to try and replace Brady. They still have Bill Belichick and are one of the greatest dynasties in recent memory. Their season ended in the first round of the playoffs last season. They finished the regular season with a 12-4 record. The Texans accounted for one of the Patriots’ losses in Week 13 with a 28-22 upset in Houston. The Patriots’ 2020 regular-season win total is projected at 9 on our sportsbook.

Week 17 vs Titans

The AFC South rivals played in Houston Week 17 last year. The Titans won, 35-14. The Texans had already clinched the division title and a spot in the playoffs before the game.

Fourth Quarter Record: 2-2

Texans’ 2020 Regular-Season Record: 8-8

Houston looks like a .500 team. The sportsbook has the Texans projected to win 7.5 games. They can win eight games if they can split with the Colts and Titans and sweep the Jags. Houston is set to take a step back but losing three more games than they did last season seems unlikely.
