The Baltimore Ravens are likely in for a successful season, but they’re in a tricky spot this week against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Las Vegas NFL odds have the Ravens as -4 favorites to win on the road, but we look at why it’s a bad situation for the Ravens and their bettors in Week One.
Week 2 Game is Bigger
Every team wants to start their season off with a win, but we think the Baltimore Ravens care more about winning in Week Two against the Kansas City Chiefs.
It’s one of the marquee games of the season, and the Ravens could be guilty of looking ahead to the Sunday night blockbuster
Quarterback Lamar Jackson will want to showcase his talents against one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and we’re not talking about Derek Carr.
No disrespect to Carr, but he doesn’t compare to Patrick Mahomes, who Jackson will battle against next week.
We’re not discounting the fact that the Ravens would rather be 1-0 entering Week Two as opposed to 0-1, but trap games are real, and we wouldn’t fault the Ravens for looking into the future.

The Ravens have also been dealt an injury blow with Marcus Peters and Gus Edwards suffering season-ending injuries, but the sportsbook line has barely moved.
Peters had talked about how excited he was just hours before suffering an injury in practice.
“It just felt good here,” Peters told ESPN. “All the guys just were young and upbeat but were willing and determined to work hard to win a Super Bowl here. … I’ve been appreciating coming to work. I just like being in Baltimore.”
The book knows the Ravens are a public-heavy team, so the -4 is attractive to bettors expecting the Ravens to be at their best, but that might not be the case.
Beware Attractive Numbers
We all want to find value with our NFL predictions, but bettors should be aware of lines that are overly attractive.
The Ravens -4 looks too good to be true, but it’s a trap. Besides playing on the road against a decent team, it’s a line that entices action for only one team, and that’s the Baltimore Ravens.
Backing the Raiders +4 isn’t an attractive bet. Bettors don’t know what to expect from Derek Carr, but you need to rely on the numbers and the situation.

The Ravens are one of the best offensive teams in the NFL right? They scored some notable high-scoring wins last season, but they also struggled to score against teams that have a solid defense. Baltimore scored three points against Buffalo in the Divisional Playoffs and only 17 and 14 points against New England and Pittsburgh.
The belief that they have a high-powered offense on par with the Chiefs isn’t overly accurate, so covering a four-point spread isn’t automatic.
When we first looked at the number for Sunday’s game against Las Vegas, we were attracted to Ravens -4. However, with the Chiefs on tap next week, we expect the Ravens to struggle on the road.
Trap Game of the Week Pick
We’re going with the Las Vegas Raiders to cover the spread. Betting on inferior teams to win isn’t easy for everyone, but this is a trap game for the Ravens, and the Raiders can take advantage.
The line begs bettors to take the Ravens, which is when those who bet on NFL should look at going against it.
We think the Ravens are the better team, but we’re in the business of making correct NFL predictions, and we’re confident with the Raiders given these circumstances.
Baltimore’s focus is on the Chiefs next week, so we expect them to start the season poorly.
Pick: Las Vegas Raiders +4 (-110)
