Defending Champions Favored In Icy Winnipeg

This may be the Western Final, but it could as well be the Grey Cup as the two-time defending champs, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the British Columbia (BC) Lions. The CFL betting lines favor Winnipeg as it looks to freeze the red-hot Lions led by star Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke.

Can Lions Win in Winterpeg?

We hear it all the time: “Domed teams are soft” or that they struggle in cold-weather places. That will be put to the test when the Lions, who hail from the Pacific Northwest, visit the frigid tundras of the Prairies. The temperature in Winnipeg on Sunday evening is projected to be at 10 degrees Fahrenheit. In comparison, it is 43 degrees in Vancouver.

Rourke has lit up the CFL and finished the regular season ranked in the top three in most quarterback stats despite missing half the year. He has yet to play in temperatures as cold as this. The Lions are also not a great road team in the playoffs. They are just 11-24 all time (31.4 percent) as a visitor.

BC is 6-3 on the road this season but the team has just one win in its last seven trips to Winnipeg. However, Rick Campbell is now at the helm and the head coach knows how to win in the postseason. He guided the Ottawa Redblacks to three Grey Cup appearances, winning one.

Blue Bombers Have No Room For Doubt

The Blue Bombers are Grey Cup champs for two straight seasons but, thanks to the pandemic, they have held the title for three. And yet this team seems to just keep getting better as Winnipeg finished with its best season under Mike O’Shea.

Quarterback Zach Collaros, who turned 34 this past summer, is favored to win his second consecutive Most Outstanding Player (MOP) award as he led the league in most passing stats. And behind Collaros is one of the deepest teams that features nine All-Stars, including four others on offense.

Winnipeg is also 3-0 coming off a bye and one of these wins was a 24-9 rout of the Lions in Rourke’s first game back from injury. The defense can be trusted to make Winnipeg a solid choice on the online gambling lines.

Lions vs Blue Bombers Head-to-Head

The Blue Bombers are 2-1 against the Lions this season with their only loss being a game where they rested their starters. Winnipeg is also 7-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last eight home games against BC.

Lions vs Blue Bombers Prediction

As far as picking a side here, we like the Blue Bombers to beat the Lions. However, we’re betting online that this game is a low-scoring one. The icy-cold weather and the Bombers’ top defense will work hand-in-hand to keep this one under the 49½ total, as 13 of Winnipeg’s last 18 home games have.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are listed at -200 in our Vegas CFL lines. This means that if you wager $100 on the Blue Bombers, you have a chance to win $50. The BC Lions are +170, offering a chance to win $170 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Blue Bombers a 66.67% chance to win, with the Lions at 37.04%.
