Super Bowl LVI Historical Props

Odds Make Record-Breaking Plays Enticing Bets

There are plenty of interesting props available on the BetUS sportsbook that you can take for Super Bowl LVI between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. The props range from over/under receiving yards to individual touchdown scorers to some of the non-game-related happenings, like the duration of the national anthem or the color of the celebratory Gatorade dump on the winning head coach.

The choices are truly endless and they run the full gauntlet of nearly everything that could happen before, during, at halftime and even at the commercial breaks of the game. But, there are also props available that take a longer view of Super Bowl LVI with an eye toward history. There are a few bets on the board centered around Super Bowl records, like the longest field goal (54 yards), most receptions (14), and most combined points (75).

Let’s take a look at some of the more promising record-breaking bets based on the current NFL betting odds

There Will Be a Made Field Goal Over 54 Yards (+200)

The longest field goal in Super Bowl history was a 54-yarder made by the Buffalo Bills’ Steve Christie in his team’s 30-13 Super Bowl XXVIII loss to the Dallas Cowboys in 1994. The second-longest was Greg Zuerlein’s 53-yarder for the Rams in Super Bowl LIII. There’s a solid chance that Christie’s record is broken on Sunday given how good the Los Angeles’ Matt Gay and Cincinnati’s Evan McPherson have been this season.

If you’re betting online, it also helps that Sunday’s game will be in domed SoFi Stadium. Gay has missed kicks in each of the Rams’ last two games but was a Pro Bowl selection this season and missed just two kicks at home. McPherson has already become a beloved figure in Cincinnati both for his outsized personality and propensity for extremely clutch kicks. The rookie is 12-for-12 this postseason.

Gay and McPherson are both as reliable as kickers get. It’s always tough to predict a situation in a Super Bowl in which teams could feasibly take 55-plus yard kicks to surpass Christie’s mark, but the general circumstances for a record-breaking make are definitely in place. This is a good bet at 2-to-1 odds.

A Player Will Have More Than 14 Receptions (+700)

The Super Bowl record for most receptions by a single player is held by James White, who had 14 catches (for 110 yards with a touchdown) for the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons. White broke the record held by Demaryius Thomas, who had 13 receptions in Super Bowl XLVIII.

This bet is a much bigger longshot to happen on Sunday because a receiver would need an impressive 15 catches to set the record. Cooper Kupp, who won the NFL’s receiving triple crown by leading the league in catches, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, is as good as any candidate to break White’s record. He’s really sure-handed and Matthew Stafford loves throwing to him, evidenced by Kupp’s 11 catches (and 14 targets) in the NFC Championship Game, and basically every single one of Kupp’s stats.

Bengals rookie Ja’Marr Chase could also hit the magic number of 15 since he’s Joe Burrow’s top pass-catcher. But, Chase has had double-digit catches just once this season. He has had double-digit targets a bunch of times, yet it could be tough for him to get as many looks as he would need. There’s a reason it’s +700.

There Will Be 76+ Combined Points Scored (+900)

Finally, if you’re making NFL predictions, you’re not going to expect 76 (or more) points to be scored between the Rams and Bengals. The Super Bowl record of 75 combined points was set in Super Bowl XXIX when the San Francisco 49ers trounced the San Diego Chargers 49-26 behind a six-touchdown performance by Steve Young, who connected with Jerry Rice for 149 yards and three scores.

It’s not going to be easy for the Rams and Bengals to match or even come close to that figure. The Vegas over/under for this game is 48½ points, and even with the Rams and Bengals averaging a nearly identical 27 points per game, a lot of things would need to break right for the totals record to be under any sort of threat.

Still, with how good Stafford and Burrow are and how explosive their skill-position groups are, this bet could be worth a flier at +900. The offenses could be helped by the perfect conditions inside SoFi as well.
