Patriots 2020 Season Wins Total -Prediction by Quarter

The New England Patriots enter the 2020 season facing the toughest schedule on the calendar, and it’s about time. The Patriots are staring at a .537 strength of schedule. New England tackles this daunting task after arguably losing more talent than anyone else, through free agency, injuries, and opt-outs.  A smile creeps onto the lips of many NFL fans when they ponder this new reality. How many wins will the new-look Patriots get in the 2020 season?

This article dissects the Patriots’ 2020 season into four quarters. Each quarter will have four games apiece, and we’ll analyze the games and make quarterly win-loss predictions. From there, we’ll measure our predictions against the regular NFL season wins lines that you can bet on at our sportsbook. Let’s do a quick review of 2019 before we move on to the quarterly breakdown for 2020.

Now it’s time to admire the beautiful picture that’s been painted for you. Look into my pigskin-shaped crystal ball and glimpse the future. An NFL postseason future that doesn’t include the New England Patriots is finally upon us.

First Quarter Breakdown

The New England Patriots kick off the 2020 season with a home game against the Miami Dolphins. The Fins will give the Pats much more trouble than chowda nation will be comfortable with, but New England wins. We have all the Week 1 NFL odds you’ll need to pick winners as the football season gets underway. Check out the full Week 1 Schedule

The Patriots visit the Seahawks in Seattle in Week 2, and will get thumped by double-digits. The Las Vegas Raiders will keep the game surprisingly close in Week 3, but the Patriots will overpower them in the end. Week 4 promises another double-digit pounding for the Pats in Arrowhead, where the Chiefs will slice, dice, and flambé them. RECORD: 2-2

Second Quarter Breakdown

New England will take out their frustrations on the Denver Broncos in Foxboro during Week 5. This game should be quite a massacre. Bill Belichick has no intention of leaving quietly, and this may turn out to be a statement game.

The Patriots will be well-rested and coming off a bye when the SF 49ers waltz into Gillette Stadium to embarrass them in Week 7. Check out our Super Bowl Odds. The Niners moneyline is currently at +750, tops in the NFC.

Week 8 won’t be much better for New England. The Pats travel to Orchard Park to receive some physical punishment at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. The Bills will win convincingly, as the AFC East torch is yanked out of New England’s hand by Buffalo. Our to-win division odds have the Bills and Patriots both listed at +110. Take the Bills!

The New England Patriots will limp into MetLife Stadium for a Week 9 matchup with the lowly Jets. New England barely escapes with a victory. RECORD: 2-2

Third Quarter Breakdown

The Baltimore Ravens should dominate the Week 10 matchup with the Patriots in Foxboro from start to finish. The Houston Texans will likely be fighting hard for a playoff spot by Week 11. Houston won’t have a problem and will stand tall at home vs New England.

Still reeling off back-to-back losses, the Pats lose a close one in Week 12 to Kyler Murray’s upstart Arizona Cardinals. Murray is a dark horse MVP candidate this season, and might be worth a wager. Check out our MVP odds and take a shot.

On Week 13, the Patriots will begin their West Coast trip with a blowout win over the San Diego Chargers. RECORD: 1-3

Fourth Quarter Breakdown

The L.A. Rams will shut the door on New England in Week 14, and the Dolphins will have revenge on the Pats in Week 15. In a bit of a death rattle, the Patriots manage to beat the Bills and Jets in back-to-back weeks to finish the 2020 season. RECORD: 2-2

New England Patriots: Total Wins Prediction

The mighty New England Patriots are in line for a relatively disappointing season, and we’re predicting them to finish 7-9. The expectation is for the Buffalo Bills to snap the Patriots’ 11-year streak for finishing first in the AFC East. It’s quite possible that the Miami Dolphins even finish ahead of New England this season, perhaps going 8-8.

The current over/under listed for the Patriots in terms of predicted regular-season wins is nine. If the predictions in this article are accurate, betting $100 on NE to win less than nine games in 2020 (-180) will win you $55.56.

You just have to ask yourself something. What are the odds that a severely depleted and revamped New England Patriots team will have a winning season, under the circumstances? New England lost Tom Brady, Kyle Van Noy, and Jamie Collins before they even fielded all the COVID opt-outs. The Patriots had the most players opt-out in the NFL, and now have the toughest schedule of 2020. The time has come for Bill Belichick to retire his sleeveless hoodie. He will at least have to stomach mediocrity for a spell.
