NFL Lock Of The Week: Green Bay Packers vs Oakland Radiers

Week 3 of the NFL Preseason will kick off on Thursday, August 23rd with the Cleveland Browns hosting the Philadelphia Eagles. Most NFL teams will play their starters for at least the first half in Week 3, before holding their starters out in their final preseason game next week. We should start to see the better NFL teams earn victories over weaker teams this weekend.

There are a handful of great games to bet on this weekend, but only one is worthy of being my Lock of the Week. The Green Bay Packers are heading to Oakland to take on the Raiders, and this game is where some money can be made. The Packers are +7.0 in this game, despite being victorious in their first two preseason games.

Packers Offense on Display

The Green Bay Packers put on an offensive clinic in their Week 2 win over Pittsburgh. They scored a whopping 51 points against the struggling Steelers defense after putting up 31 points in their preseason opener. Green Bay should have another huge night offensively against the Raiders who continue to play without their best defensive player.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers played in just one offensive series last week but looked sharp. Rodgers threw a touchdown pass and appeared to have an immediate connection with a new tight end, Jimmy Graham. Rodgers and the rest of the Packers starting offense should see more playing time this Friday night. There’s little stopping them from scoring a ton of points.

Raiders Playing Well, Not Scoring

The Oakland Raiders have split their first two preseason games, but they haven’t scored a ton of points in either game. Oakland scored 16 points to beat the Lions in their preseason opener and was held to just 15 points their next week vs the Los Angeles Rams. It is taking the Raiders some time to learn the new system being installed by head coach Jon Gruden. The Raiders should look sharper this week, but they still have a ways to go.

Defensively, the Raiders are still without star defensive player Khalil Mack. Mack has continued his hold-out even after being fined by the team. Mack is in the final year of his rookie contract, and he is holding out until he earns an extension and a pay raise. The Raider’s defense will have their hands full with Rodgers and the Packers on Friday night.

Underdog Packers Win Game

The Oakland Raiders should be improved in 2018, but they won’t be nearly as good as the Packers. The Raider’s second and third teams were dominated last week, and they should see significant playing time in this game as well.

The Green Bay Packers will be one of the highest-scoring teams in football this season thanks to their offensive weapons. Green Bay will use these weapons on Friday night to build a big lead over the Raiders. The Packers will not only cover, they will defeat the Oakland Raiders. The Green Bay Packers +7 is the lock of the week.
