Don’t you just love this time of the year? The sun is out, the birds are singing and, oh yeah, pro football is finally back! Ok, preseason pro football, but still, everybody’s favorite sport is back with the chance to make a couple of bucks betting on NFL action as well.
Take Friday night, for example. At M&T Bank Stadium, the Baltimore Ravens, last season’s top AFC team in the regular season, will be looking to start their preseason with a win when they play host to a Philadelphia Eagles team in dire need of revamping its image after a sad finish to 2023.
Now I know, making NFL predictions for a preseason game sounds much easier said than done, especially considering both teams will most likely be keeping their starters on the sidelines, giving rookies and bench riders a shot to show what they have. But still, riding off on the hype of having pro football back, let’s talk some Ravens vs. Eagles preseason ball.

Eagles Ready to Put Last Season Behind
When NFL historians look back at Philadelphia’s 2023 season, I’m sure they’ll find two sides to that tale. On the one hand, there was that over the top, promising 10-1 start that had the team soaring through the competition and riding the wave as one of the league’s top NFL betting picks week in and week out.
And then there was the rest of the season where Philly collapsed, losing five of the last six games on the way to also letting the NFC East crown slip away from its grasp to the Dallas Cowboys. Needless to say, the Eagles couldn’t catch a break in the postseason and were easily booted out of the competition by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 32-9 in the wild card round.
But hey, that was last season. Let’s focus on 2024 and what Philly is cooking up to once again be a threat in the NFC.
Despite shades of drama being dished around in many NFL news and rumors sites, especially regarding head coach Nick Sirianni’s job security and his relationship with the roster, all that was put aside in favor of seeing this team rise again.
On offense, Philly spared no expense when it came to beefing up its unit, bringing in former New York Giants superstar running back Saquon Barkley and offering contract extensions to wide receivers AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. The addition of former Pittsburgh Steelers QB Kenny Pickett to take over the role of backup behind star quarterback Jalen Hurts also stands out as a move that could reap benefits for the Eagles.
At the end of the day, I think we can all agree that offense was not Philly’s issue here. The defense, on the other hand, needs – and I repeat and spell N-E-E-D-S – to improve greatly. Every single positional unit here feels like it needs a question mark next to it when it comes to defining depth.
With the addition of new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, alongside linebackers Devin White, Oren Burks and Zack Baun and cornerback Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, back after spending a year with the Detroit Lions, the Eagles want to add some much needed veteran leadership to a line and secondary in dire needs of saving.
Their defense-heavy NFL Draft strategy should also work out in the team’s favor. A trio of rookies, cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, and linebacker Jalyx Hunt, could end up being immediate impact players for Philly.
Ravens Want Spot in Super Bowl LIX At Any Cost
What do you do after you finish last season with the best record, the best point differential, the fewest points per game allowed and have the league’s regular season MVP? If you’re the Ravens, the team who managed to pull all those feats off while seeing their Super Bowl dreams cut short by the Chiefs in the AFC title game, you get ready to run it all back and make good on their +1000 odds to win Super Bowl LIX.

It’s safe to say that the Ravens are not messing around when it comes to wanting to bring another Lombardi Trophy back to Maryland, especially considering this year’s Super Bowl is set to be played in New Orleans, where the Ravens won their last championship in 2013. Bringing in former Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry to bolster a rushing attack that led the league last year in yards shows that Baltimore is not to be messed with this coming season.
For this game, though, I’d be paying close attention to two different scenarios that Baltimore needs to work on for what’s to come. On the one hand, the team’s offensive line will be debuting a new right and left tackle and right guard, meaning that chemistry must be built ASAP.
Secondly, seeing how the defense will play after defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald departed to take the head coaching job in Seattle will be key. Still, after re-signing Justin Madubuike and snagging up CB Nate Wiggins with the team’s first-round draft pick, plus already having one of the best all-around defenses in the league, Baltimore should be good to go.

Eagles vs Ravens Preseason Betting Predictions
One thing that I love about Ravens coach John Harbaugh is how he treats preseason games. For him, every matchup matters, be it preseason, regular season, playoffs, the Super Bowl or a simple pick-up game at a park.
So what does that mean?
That you can bet your butt Baltimore will come out swinging on Friday against Philadelphia, especially considering the team has a 24-2 record in its last 26 preseason games. But don’t sleep on the Eagles here, either. Keep in mind that while the defense is the line that needs the most work this offseason, the offense is still one of the best in the league when it comes to putting points up on the board.
As previously mentioned, even with both teams deciding to give their starters a rest and play with second- and third-stringers, I feel like we could be in for a strong showing from both offenses, leading to taking the over of 34 points as the best NFL bet to go with here.
