Over of the Week: Cheesy Outcome

Unquestionably, betting on the over is a lot more fun than the under. However, NFL’s Week 10’s slate appears to be slim pickings with plenty of matchups having totals juiced to the gills on the sportsbook. This leaves us to take shots on some questionable games. We highlight a mixture of these and conclude that the biggest shootout could come from a place of cheese …

NFL Week 10: Don’t Overlook Anyone

Second Runner-Up: Detroit Lions at Pittsburgh Steelers

When: Sunday (1 p.m. ET)

NFL Week 10 Over of the Week: A Cheesy Outcome
NFL Week 10 Over of the Week

Total: Over 42½

Wow, we’re actually picking the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers as a contender to go over the total. For beginners, the bar is really low and 42½ points are the lowest total this week. Secondly, the Lions’ woeful defense is allowing 26.5 points on the road and, thirdly, four of their last five games against Pittsburgh have gone over.

That last part remains as relevant as ever because even 20 years ago, the Lions stunk and the Steelers were solid. Pittsburgh scored an average of 39.7 points against Detroit in its last three home games against the Lions.

We see enough of history here for Pittsburgh to drop a nuke on the Lions. Even the offensively challenged Steelers team can come alive against Detroit. A bet online on this game to go over is worth consideration. But it misses out because the Lions may just get shut out.

First Runner-Up: Atlanta Falcons at Dallas Cowboys

When: Sunday (1 p.m. ET)

Total: Over 54½

This here is what they call the “low-hanging fruit”. We have an angry Dallas Cowboys, the sixth-best offense in the NFL, going against the Atlanta Falcons, who own the seventh-worst defense. It’s no wonder this is this week’s highest-scoring game per the NFL odds, but it’s also why we can’t make it our official pick.

But there is little reason to think this game won’t feature plenty of scoring. The Cowboys average the most yards per play and Atlanta averages the fifth-worst explosive run rate per defense. Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard will run roughshod over the Falcons. On top of this, the Cowboys have one of the best-scoring defenses.

Atlanta is a fast starter and can even go up on Dallas here per the NFL scores and odds. But in true fashion, the Falcons will let that lead slip away as Dak Prescott and the Cowboys roar back. It’s going to be a fun game and could just go way over 54½ points. But we have a better contender …

Over of the Week

Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers

When: Sunday (4:25 p.m. ET)

Total: Over 49½

Get ready for a showdown here as Russell Wilson returns to lead the Seattle Seahawks against Aaron Rodgers (also returning) and his Green Bay Packers. It’s a great matchup between two elite quarterbacks provided Wilson is back to being 100 percent.

Even if these teams have been cashing the unders on the total, we’ll buck the trend here as five of their last seven meetings have gone over. The Packers average 27 points if you discount their first and last game and if the Seahawks’ defense were any more giving, the unit would be called the Mother Teresa’s.

Seattle was putting up almost 26 points in its first four weeks prior to Wilson hurting his finger. The time off may have been beneficial for him as he heals physically and mentally. Buckle up as this one will be a shootout and that’s our NFL prediction this week.

Pick: Seahawks-Packers – Over 49½
