Broncos vs Panthers +2 → Tease Panthers to +8

The Carolina Panthers (3-9-0) have decided to bench Baker Mayfield in favor of Sam Darnold this week as he makes his season debut against the Denver Broncos. It will be his first game since Week 18 of the 2021 season when he led Carolina in a 41-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Denver Broncos (3-7-0) aren’t exactly convincing in the role of favorites. They are beatable. Thanks to an offense that is about as threatening as a wet mop under the guidance of Russell Wilson. The veteran has thrown three touchdowns and four interceptions in his last five games.

Similarly, there’s barely been any offense to speak of in Carolina. It’s hard to imagine an offense being worse than it was with Mayfield or P.J. Walker. Or is it just amnesia? Lest everyone’s forgotten, Darnold had a reputation for being turnover-prone.

From a betting online perspective, Carolina is 5-6-0 against the spread through the first 11 weeks, when Mayfield and P.J. Walker took turns to start. The credit for keeping those games closer than the NFL odds would have it is likely down to the legit Panthers’ defense.

In fact, that’s what both teams have in common: a defense doing most of the hard graft for little reward.

Thus, given the defensive dominance of both teams, teasing this line up to +8 gives us extra wiggle room to play with in the event offensive struggles and turnovers play a key factor in this game. Plus, anything above a touchdown for the home team has its value too.

Steelers +2½ vs Colts – Tease Steelers up to +8½

The Jeff Saturday-inspired Colts nearly went 2-0 SU with the former All-pro player at the helm, taking over the reins from Frank Reich in Week 10. They beat the Las Vegas Raiders in his coaching debut. Then, they led the Philadelphia Eagles 16-10 in the final minutes and had Jalen Hurts and Co. on the ropes – until they didn’t.

The disappointment of the 17-16 loss to the Eagles at Lucas Oil Stadium swiftly spilled into the NFL betting markets. The market moved off its lookahead line Colts -3 to the official Week 12 opening line Colts -2½, where it has held firm since.

While the Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a loss in Week 11, there were plenty of positives for Mike Tomlin to hang his hat on. Notably, the Steelers’ offense gave the Cincinnati Bengals a run for its money in the 37-30 loss.

Rookie Kenny Pickett’s development under center is still a work in progress, but he has the offense moving, and that’s an encouraging sign for Mike Tomlin. The Steelers‘ defense didn’t have its best game, but it is hard to contain a quarterback as talented as Joe Burrow.

Taking everything into consideration, flipping this point spread in our favor and teasing it up to 8½ points is a nice insurance policy. To begin with, a Colts victory isn’t guaranteed, even if they are the slight home favorites. Moreover, if they do, it’s hard to see Saturday coaching them to a nine-point margin of victory (or more) against one of the most respected head coaches [Tomlin] in the league.
