From Lookaheads to NFL Week 13 Odds
The way too early preseason lookaheads tipped this game on a PK line as high expectations preceded both of these outfits ahead of the 2022 campaign. While things haven’t gone quite to plan in both camps, the Raiders have had the rougher go of it by far. That fact underpinned last week’s market sneak peak at the upcoming week’s football betting action with lookaheads projecting the Raiders at +3.
The outlook changed considerably after Week 12, in which the Raiders upset the Seattle Seahawks 40-34 in overtime and the Chargers edged the Arizona Cardinals 25-24. The official Week 13 line was Chargers -1.
Since markets went to press at the sportsbook exchange, the line for the Chargers vs Raiders game has experienced several iterations, moving between a high of Chargers -2½ and a low of a pick’em line. Most recently, the script has flipped entirely as the Chargers emerging as the notional +1 underdogs.

Chargers in the Hunt
The Chargers (6-5-0) are well behind the division-leading Kansas City Chiefs (9-2-0) and outside of the playoff frame as a result. If the season ended today, the Chiefs would be the No. 1 seed and the Chargers (currently eighth) would be out.
There’s little hope of the Chargers closing the gap on the Chiefs in the division title race. There are only six games left in the season, and unless the unthinkable happens, such as the Chiefs falling off the proverbial cliff, It’s just not going to happen. Los Angeles’ best hope of getting into the playoffs, therefore, is via a wild card.

Los Angeles Chargers NFL Betting Trends

- Chargers are 5-1-0 ATS on the road (league-best record ahead of Week 13)
- Chargers are 2-0-0 ATS as the road underdog
Raiders Must Win
The Raiders go into Week 13 facing an absolute must-win game. They’re 4-7-0 and well outside of the playoff frame. The only place they’re going if the season were to end today is the golf course.
The Raiders are riding their first winning streak of the season after beating the Denver Broncos in Week 11 and the Seahawks in Week 12 (both wins were on the road). Their only other wins came against the hapless Broncos in Week 4 and Texans (Week 7).

Chargers vs Raiders NFL Prediction
Much of the outlook for this game appears to be dictated by the status of Josh Jacobs, who was the hero in last Sunday’s win in Seattle. Without Jacobs, the Raiders will be hard-pressed to compete with the Chargers or win this game – so the punditocracy and public believe.
Jacobs’s status is up in the air due to a calf injury. It’s worth mentioning that similar speculation surrounded the Raider’s running back last week, only to see him start and then gallop for a career-high 303 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns.
The fact that Jacobs was seen practicing this week likely contributed to the pendulum swing in favor of the Raiders. But even with Jacobs starting against the Chargers, can bettors genuinely trust the Raiders in this spot? Maybe it’s a lot to expect from a team that has only beaten questionable opposition and that finds its season on life support.
With Los Angeles slipping into plus money, it feels like the value is with them for NFL picks. But forget the points and take the Chargers to the outright win at even odds. Justin Herbert and the Chargers were buoyed by a clutch win in Glendale that saw them score a last-gasp touchdown and convert the two-pointer for the 25-24 win. If there’s a side or a quarterback to trust in this matchup, it’s the Chargers and Herbert.
