Unlikely Shootout Produces Over of the Week

The Broncos are usually the type of team you feature on an “Under of the Week” thanks to their recent track record: six of their last seven games on the road seven of their last eight overall have gone under.

The Raiders were once a hot NFL prediction to go over but their offense has dried up, averaging just 17 points since November. They’ve failed to hit the 20-point mark in all but one of their last seven games. Denver has not allowed opponents to score more than 17 points in five of their last seven.

So why is this even an honorable mention here? Las Vegas has one of the worst run defenses in the NFL while Denver is adept at this “smash-and-dash” type of old-school offense. It usually does not lead to a lot of points, but we won’t be surprised to see the total go over 41 points.

First Runner-Up: Washington Football Team (6-8) at Dallas Cowboys (10-4)

When: Sunday (8:20 p.m. ET)
Spread: Over 46½

Every time Washington visits Dallas, a shootout is almost guaranteed to happen. That’s why their last six games in Big D have all gone over. We’re on track to continue this trend as the Cowboys appear to have a resurgent offense, scoring 27 or more points in three of their last four.

As for the Football Team, their on-and-off defense can get lit up on the right occasion. This unit has allowed 27 points in their last two games including against Dallas in their own stadium. Washington has allowed 31.3 points on average against top-10 offenses as a road team.

We were this close to picking this one, but it may just be that Dallas blows out Washington and keeps them from scoring in double figures. It takes two to tango, thus we turn elsewhere on the BetUS online sportsbook…

Over of the Week: Detroit Lions (2-11-1) at Atlanta Falcons (6-8)

When: Sunday (1 p.m. ET)
Totals: Over 43

Our Over of the Week features two terrible teams with plenty in common: bottom-five defenses and occasionally explosive offenses. Detroit is coming off a surprising 30-12 win over the Arizona Cardinals and has now won two of their last three by scoring at least 29 points on both occasions.

The Falcons have gone 2-4 in their last six, with the total going under in all but one game. Going against some of the top defenses in San Francisco, Tampa Bay, and New England will do that to you.

A top-ten defense the Lions are not. Hence, this will allow this underachieving Falcons squad to open up and put plenty of points on the board. On the flip side, the Falcons have given up 25 or more points in five of their last seven games and 43 points is not a lot to cover. Bet online on this one to go above 43.
