NFL Week 4 NFC South Predictions: Ride Desperate Falcons, Bet Eagles 9/29

  • Atlanta has already lost twice at home this season.
  • Philadelphia has lost five of the last six meetings against Tampa Bay.
  • Check out the NFL betting odds for both games and every other matchup on the Week 4 schedule in the BetUS football sportsbook.

There’s no other way to say it. The new-look Atlanta Falcons need to take care of business at home against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Down in the Sunshine State, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host a Philadelphia Eagles team with Rocky Balboa-like revenge on its collective minds.

2 Bets Bets for NFC South in Week 4

1. Desperate Falcons (-1) to Win Showdown vs Saints

Atlanta (1-2) put up a great effort in Sunday night’s narrow 22-17 home loss against Kansas City. But they couldn’t get it done against the Chiefs when it mattered most. Kirk Cousins was solid, but not great by passing for 229 yards with one touchdown and one interception. After the half, the opposing team held the Falcons to only three points, which is a bit disturbing.

New Orleans (2-1) had its previously unstoppable offense almost completely shut down in Sunday’s 15-12 Week 3 home loss against Philadelphia on Sunday. Derek Carr was held to 142 passing yards and the offense was limited to a field goal through three quarters, The Saints never got the explosive plays from Alvin Kamara that we saw from them in their first two games

Despite their offensive struggles this season, I like the Falcons to get the huge home win in NFL picks here because of the high level of play we’ve seen from their defense and their high desperation level. These NFC South division rivals split their two regular-season meetings a year ago with the home team winning each time.

While I’m still not the biggest Kirk Cousins fan, the Falcons do have some nice talent at the skill positions and I believe we saw the makings of an improving offense against Kansas City on Sunday night.

That, combined with the way we saw Philly shut down New Orleans’ offense earlier in the day leads me to believe that Atlanta will scratch out a hard-fought win at home. The Falcons are 4-2 ATS in the last six meetings and are completely desperate. That’s just enough for me to ride with Atlanta as a very small home favorite in the NFL betting spread!

Cousins in Atlanta might not win me over. But the Falcons don’t have the quarterback issues that their NFC South rivals, the Carolina Panthers, do. Is former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young already a bust?

2. Back Eagles (-1) to Get Revenge vs Buccaneers

Tampa Bay had its two-game winning streak unceremoniously snapped in Sunday’s 26-7 home loss against the previously winless Denver Broncos. The Buccaneers saw their offense struggle for the second straight game as Baker Mayfield was limited to just 163 passing yards and the rushing attack was held to just 91 yards.

Philadelphia bounced back nicely from its crushing late-game collapse against Atlanta in Week 2 to beat New Orleans 15-12 in a low-scoring game on Sunday. The Eagles struggled to get their offense going, but the defense played one of their best games we’ve seen in a while by holding a Saints offense that couldn’t be stopped in the first two weeks of the season to only one touchdown.

In the third quarter, Saquon Barkley and Dallas Goedert of the Birds team got several key plays, allowing them to score and overcome their scoreless situation on offense.

Philly comes into this matchup looking for revenge after last season’s embarrassing 32-9 playoff road loss to Tampa Bay and I like the Birds to get what they are seeking in online betting.

I know the Eagles are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games and that Tampa Bay is 7-3 over the same span. I also know that the Eagles have somehow dropped five of their last six meetings against the Buccaneers.

Yet, I’m not surprised that the Eagles are slight road favorites in NFL lines based on what I’ve seen from both teams through three weeks. On offense, the Birds are 11th in scoring (23.3 PPG) while Tampa Bay is 13th (21.3 PPG). Tampa Bay allows nearly as few points as the Eagles do, with the Eagles giving up 21.0 points per game and Tampa Bay allowing 20.7.

While the vast majority of trends surrounding this Week 4 affair suggest that Tampa Bay will win and cover the NFL betting line, I don’t believe we’ll see them hold to form. Superstar running back Saquon Barkley leads the league in rushing (351 yards) and is tied for the league lead in touchdowns (4). I expect Philadelphia to continue riding Barkley’s coattails and the passing attack to be better with  A.J. Brown returning to the lineup.

The Birds are slight road favorites in this Week 5 matchup because they have been the better team through three games and have more than enough motivation to surprise you. I’m going with Philadelphia in NFL predictions to get its revenge against a Tampa Bay team that still needs to get its offense untracked.
