NFL Week 5 AFC East Betting Picks: Vikings, Texans, Dolphins Top Bets

  • The Jets go to London to face an undefeated team after scoring nine points in Week 4.
  • The Bills play another of the top teams in the AFC on the road, leaning betting lines away from them.
  • The Dolphins outlast the Patriots in being the worst team in the division.
  • Read on for the best Week 5 NFL picks in the AFC East.

Week 4 was not the best for the AFC East. The top two teams in the division, the Buffalo Bills (3-1) and the New York Jets (2-2), suffered bad losses. While it might not affect season-long NFL future betting, going against tough opponents in Week 5 will complicate things.

The bottom half of the division, the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins, had issues in Week 4. Ironically, the two teams will be matched up in Week 5, which could lead to BetUS Sportsbook not knowing what to do with the game.

3 AFC East Week 5 Bets

1. Jets Don’t Look Good Going Into Week 5

Last week was not good for the Jets, who could have changed their NFL predictions going forward. They lost to the Denver Broncos 10-9, as the Jets never found the endzone, settling for three field goals on a rainy day in New Jersey.

Despite 13 penalties and a lackluster running game, the Jets still had a chance to win in the final seconds. Greg Zuerlein attempted a 50-yard field goal with 43 seconds left, but it went wide right, ending the Jets’ chances at the game.

However, the Jets’ biggest concern was the running game. Breece Hall had 10 carries for just four yards, while his backup, Braelon Allen, was a little better, with eight carries for 34 yards. That put the offense on the 40-year-old shoulders of Aaron Rodgers, who attempted 42 passes, completing 24 of them for 225 yards while being sacked five times.

If the Jets could not figure out how to beat the Broncos at home, going to London to face an undefeated Minnesota Vikings will not be any easier. The Vikings are playing great and are leading the league with 17 sacks, which could be challenging for a banged-up Rodgers.

2. Bills Need a Bounce Back Win

Week 4 could not have started worse for the Bills. On the opening possession for the Baltimore Ravens offense, Derrick Henry ran an 87-yard touchdown, kicking off a performance that headlined NFL news. He ran for 199 yards on the Bills’ defense, scoring two touchdowns, one on the ground and the other receiving.

That kind of performance has to spark change for a Bills team that was going into their Week 4 matchup 3-0. However, how much can they adjust before the next game against another tough opponent? The Bills will be going on the road to face the 3-1 Houston Texans, who have been somewhat disappointing this season compared to the preseason hype. But the Texans have been good enough to cause problems for the Bills.

The Bills’ loss last week was on the road, with the offense also struggling despite the defense being the most significant issue. Josh Allen was under pressure the whole game, only throwing for 180 yards on 29 attempts without a touchdown. He did not throw an interception but got close at least twice.

On top of that, the running game could not get anything going, which is expected against the Ravens, who have one of the best-run defenses in the league. The Texans are not nearly at that same level, but with the Bills rushing for 81 yards on 23 attempts, it’s not looking great for them going into Week 5.

3. Can’t Trust Patriots, So Dolphins Only Option

Finally, in the one matchup between two AFC East teams, there is no clear option in NFL picks. That is mainly because neither the Dolphins nor the Patriots look promising for betting.

Despite looking competent in the season’s opening two weeks, the Patriots have started to look how most expected them to play. They lost to the Jets 24-3 in Week 3 and 30-13 to the San Francisco 49ers last week. The defense has started to be unlocked, allowing 54 points in the previous two weeks, while the offense has remained deflated.

The Dolphins have their own concerns, which mostly revolve around not having starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on the field. That is a big question for the Dolphins, who have the roster to be successful this season.

That said, the Dolphins are favored in NFL spreads and seem like the best bet. With Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and De’Von Achane on their roster, they at least have the talent to get people excited. Even without a reliable quarterback, that should be enough to beat the Patriots.
