Over/Under Bet of the Week: Bring the Thunder, Bet the Under

Bet the Rams-Ravens game while their total is still around 40 points. This game is quickly being bet “under” thanks to the blustery conditions: wind speeds are at nearly 20 miles per hour and a 92% probability of rain. Baltimore is favored to win Sunday as it should make good on its Super Bowl odds, beat Los Angeles, and do it in what could be its lowest-scoring total yet.

Weather Helps Ravens’ Defense

The Ravens have the league’s best defense. They lead in scoring (15.6 points allowed per game), sacks (47), and net yards gained per pass attempt (4.2). And with the thunderstorm making it harder to pass, we can bet online that the Ravens’ defense will eat against the Rams.

The Rams are comprised of an aging or beat-up core or young inexperienced players. Matthew Stafford is ancient as a 35-year-old quarterback with an extensive injury history. His star receiver, Cooper Kupp, looks like a shell of himself. And their offensive line is still a work in progress.

Los Angeles has also struggled to score against top-10 defenses. It has not scored more than 20 points since Week 2 against San Francisco when it hit that pointless field goal in the end. And with the weather conditions, it’s hard to see how the Rams can consistently score or move the ball against the Ravens.

Can the Rams Stop the Ravens?

In one word: no. The Rams will likely get smoked by the Ravens as Baltimore did to the NFC teams it’s faced: Detroit and Seattle, most notably. The Rams are a fringe team per NFL playoff predictions. And with Kyren Williams and Puka Nacua, two of their better young skill players, hurting, it makes it even harder.

But the Rams may not need to “stop” the Ravens entirely. Baltimore’s script has typically been to pile up a lead in the first half and then manage it in the second. The Ravens have averaged over eight points per quarter in the first three. But this drops to just 5.3 in the last period.

Lamar Jackson gets most of his points in the first half. He has 12 touchdowns and a 103.8 passer rating here. In the second half, this drops to six TDs and a 92.7 rating. Once Baltimore goes up, it will eat the clock by focusing on running the ball. That could keep the total under 40 points.

Over/Under Betting Trend to Care About

The total has gone over in 10 of Baltimore’s last 13 games at home. It has trended a similar fashion when facing NFC West teams: eight of its last 10 games against the division.

Over/Under for Rams vs Ravens Is …

This game has the makings of a Ravens blowout where they hold their opponent to single figures. Baltimore has a way of doing that, especially against NFC teams. The Ravens destroyed Detroit 38-6 and Seattle 37-3. It also held Houston and Cleveland to single figures. Three games went under the total and the Detroit game went over by a half.

Against the Rams, we don’t see Los Angeles scoring enough. If the Rams hit 13 that would be impressive given the conditions. Baltimore may also miss a few scoring opportunities due to the weather. This is the week’s top over/under NFL pick. Bet the total to go ‘under’.
