QB Drama Offers NFL Week 17 Betting Value

Regarding predictions on NFL games, we’ve got two prop picks that look like winners from where I sit. The picks below weren’t what I originally had planned, but the Vikings were nice enough to wait until I had done most of my research to announce a QB change. While starting a rookie QB is a big deal for the Vikings, it just means we have one more player’s numbers to crunch in our penultimate parlay of the regular season.

Here’s a look at some Vegas NFL odds to consider!

Packers vs Vikings Odds and Spreads

Jaren Hall Over 0.5 Interceptions

Well, I was going to write about how well I thought Nick Mullens was playing for the Vikings under center after Kirk Cousins’ injury and Josh Dobbs’ benching. Despite going 0-2 in starts, he threw for 714 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions. That last part with the six picks isn’t great, but I thought he would stabilize and help the Vikings win on Sunday night at home.

The Vikings disagreed and announced that rookie Jaren Hall would start against the Packers. This marks the fourth QB change since Cousins tore his Achilles in Week 8, which has me scratching my head.

While this screws up the NFL picks I made for this game on Thursday morning, you know what they say, when a door closes, a window opens. And fading Hall is my window to financial happiness to end the year.

Hall has seen some action this year, going 8-for-10 with 101 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. While the Packers aren’t an outstanding defensive team regarding interception rate, going up against a rookie is a surefire way to pad our defensive stats.

It might not be the best pick in the NFL this weekend, but I don’t think my original plan of betting Mullens to go Over 275 yards has legs with him riding the pine.

NFL prediction: Jaren Hall Over 0.5 Interceptions (-117)

Justin Jefferson Over 78.5 Receiving Yards

It doesn’t matter if it’s Hall, Mullens, Paul Crewe, or Shane Falco under center for the Vikings on Sunday Night Football; I have faith in Justin Jefferson to excel. Jefferson is the most talented receiver in the game, making for a perfect security blanket for Hall.

Hall will be without T.J. Hockenson and possibly Jordan Addison. While this means that JJ will be double-teamed all night, with a guy this good, it matters little how many defenders you put on him; Jefferson can outrun and outcut two defenders just as quickly as one.

Look at the Vikings roster and tell me who else is getting attention in the passing game. It will be ugly at times, and Jefferson will need to work harder than usual. But my money is on him and Hall to hook up and put in some quality work.

NFL prediction: Justin Jefferson Over 78.5 Receiving Yards (-113)
