1. KC Should Shut Down Vegas, Keep Total Low
Kansas City allowed 27 points against the Carolina Panthers’ 29th-ranked offense. But Carolina, particularly quarterback Bryce Young, overachieved in that game. The Chiefs pressured Young and did what they could, but he made some spectacular throws. This won’t happen against Las Vegas. The Raiders are a bleep stain in the NFL and may just score zero points. The total to go under as the top NFL pick for this game.
Las Vegas averages 18.7 points per game and has failed to hit the 20-point mark in five of its last seven contests. On top of that, Ridder may be the worst starting quarterback right now. The former Falcon has a career 84.3 passer rating. But that’s boosted by playing on one of the league’s most talented rosters.
The Raiders have Brock Bowers, a star tight end, and some serviceable running backs and receivers. But that’s about it. Ridder is no Young and he won’t do anything against a ticked-off Chiefs team.
“You want to have some blowouts. You want be a little calmer in the fourth quarter,” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said following another narrow victory. “I’ve always said it can be a good thing as you get to the playoffs and later in the season, just knowing that you’ve been in those moments before and knowing how to kind of attack it.”
Indeed, the Chiefs do not have the explosiveness on offense to blow teams out. They’ll have to do it the hard way: with defense. Fortunately for them, the Ridder-led Raiders may be the most stagnant offense they’ll face.

Last week, we posted about how awful the Mahomes-led Chiefs are at covering spreads of 10+ points. For a refresher, the Chiefs were 39% against the NFL spread (ATS). But it’s not like the Raiders are much better when being spotted seven points or more. Las Vegas is 3-2 ATS when at +7 or more, but it has lost the last two.
The Raiders lost by 15 against Miami (+8) and by 17 to Cincinnati (+7.5). The last time they covered? At home against the Chiefs at +8.5 (they lost by seven). Las Vegas is 6-6 ATS against Kansas City when an underdog of seven or more points against Patrick Mahomes. But as an underdog of 10+ points, it’s only 2-5 ATS.
Fair play, these Chiefs teams were mostly offensive and led the NFL in scoring. This current team lacks the scoring “oomph,” which is why Kansas City is only 4-6-1 ATS despite having just one loss, per Raiders vs Chiefs betting trends. Las Vegas is worse at 4-7 ATS due to having a subpar defense.
Maxx Crosby is still an All-Pro-caliber edge rusher. Christian Wilkins is a solid defensive tackle. They have the players but are disorganized and can’t stop opponents from scoring.
