Making the argument that the Indianapolis Colts are the NFL’s biggest surprise through three weeks wouldn’t be a tough case to make. The Colts not only have a rookie quarterback in Anthony Richardson, but he’s missed just under the past two games, and yet the team still sits at 2-1. This is largely thanks to solid play from backup quarterback Gardner Minshew, as well as a defense showing legitimate signs of life.
On the flip side of things, the Los Angeles Rams enter Week 4 with a 1-2 mark after upsetting the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. They’ve dropped their last two games by a combined 10 points and have looked far better this season than many anticipated behind the strong play of second-year running back Kyren Williams and rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua.
Let’s roll right into the Week 4 football NFL odds along with a few predictions, picks, and also a selection for the projected total on this game.
Can Richardson Return to Form Immediately?
Prior to Richardson leaving the Week 2 game against the Houston Texans, he rushed for two touchdowns to help the Colts jump out to a 14-0 lead on the road. Minshew impressed throughout the remainder of that game and during the win over the Baltimore Ravens, for the most part, but it looks likely to be Richardson’s show once again after he managed to practice on Wednesday and Thursday.
The daunting task facing the Colts this week is their matchup with the Rams’ passing game. Although Matthew Stafford hasn’t been able to find the end zone often, tossing just for two scores in three games, the Rams are averaging north of 300 passing yards per game — arguably the biggest area of struggle for the Colts.
Indy has given up 275.7 yards through the air in three games and could be in for a tough test at home in Week 3. While the Colts are the hot hand, I’m going to stick with them after an impressive road win against the Ravens, even though Stafford and Co. were on the fringe of two impressive upsets in the past two games against the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals.
NFL Predicted Score: Colts 21, Rams 17
Rams vs Colts Betting Lines
Rams vs Colts Best Bets
The latest betting lines for the NFL have this game listed as a straight pick, so it’s simply a matter of which side you believe gets it done. There’s a very real argument to be made for the Rams, both due to the passing matchup and the emergence of the aforementioned Kyren Williams in the rushing game. But the Colts’ defense as a whole has looked improved, even if there are still issues to sort out in pass defense.
I’m opting to believe in Richardson’s ability to build off his hot start against the Texans in Week 2 and parlay that into another strong performance this week, even if it’s a potentially tougher matchup. The Colts have been a surprise, but with the return of running back Zack Moss (210 yards on 48 carries, one touchdown) and the emergence of Michael Pittman (25 receptions, 230 yards, one touchdown) paired with Richardson, I think they have enough offensive firepower to get the job done.
NFL Pick: Indianapolis Colts pick (-110)
Two Ways to Target Total in Rams vs Colts
The latest odds for this NFL matchup list the projected total at 46 points and the Rams have landed under that number in two of their three games. As for the Colts, their matchup with the Ravens went under while the two previous games cleared that total by less than one touchdown.
ANTHONY RICHARDSON SHOWING OFF HIS LEGS FOR THE TOUCHDOWN
His second rushing TD of the season!!

If this game stays close, which I believe it will, I envision a closer, low-scoring game that manages to stay under 46 total points. The Rams have only allowed 296 total yards per game on defense this season, and I think this Colts team is picking up confidence and momentum as the season rolls on.
NFL Pick: Under 46 points (-110)
