SNF Best Anytime Touchdown Scorer: 1 Top Prop for Broncos vs Patriots

Another action-packed weekend in the NFL awaits and we’ll be capping Sunday of Week 16 off with an AFC clash. The Denver Broncos, led by Russell Wilson, are set to battle Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots on primetime this Christmas Eve. On a night of giving, these teams aren’t in the holiday spirit and likely won’t give us much joy. Still, we have just three Sunday Night Football games remaining, so we can’t miss this opportunity.

After a tumultuous start to the season that saw the Broncos go 1-5, they have turned things around, going 6-2 in their last eight. They enter Week 16 at 7-7 and in the hunt for an AFC Wild Card spot with three games left to play. The Broncos are coming off an embarrassing 42-17 loss to the Detroit Lions but have an excellent opportunity to bounce back against the 3-11 Patriots on Sunday night.

The 11 losses have the Patriots in contention for the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft. The Patriots have played musical chairs all season long between Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe at the quarterback position. The franchise is likely headed toward drafting a quarterback next spring. There have even been rumors recently that Bill Belichick will move on from the organization this offseason.

Here is a look at the latest Sunday Night Football odds. The current odds have the total for this clash at just 34 ½ points. Both teams are snails in terms of neutral pace. The Broncos rank 19th and the Patriots 23rd. The Patriots have gone under their team total in 11 of 14 games this season! New England’s offense ranks dead last in scoring, so it’s tough to trust them. This is the lowest total of any game this week, so predicting touchdowns for it is riskier business than normal.

The NFL point spread has the Broncos as six -point favorites. The Patriots have been terrible this season in every facet, including against the spread, as they have gone 3-10-1 ATS. Denver is highly motivated to win in order to stay in the playoff hunt.

The Broncos have a significant decision to make regarding the future of the franchise this upcoming offseason. They must decide if they will designate Russell Wilson as a post-June 1 cut or choose to opt into his contract for another two seasons. The outcome of the final three weeks of this season will likely decide that answer for the team.

We have just three weeks left in the season, and the league has a laundry list of injuries to sift through. This game is no different. The most significant injury question coming into this matchup is the status of Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who has missed two straight weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain. The Broncos’ run defense has been terrible all season long, and if Stevenson can’t go, we can expect another high-volume day for veteran Ezekiel Elliott out of the Patriots’ backfield.

As the conductor of the touchdown train, I’ve once again narrowed down the best options for anytime touchdown scorers for you here on Sunday Night Football in Week 16. Let’s get to the best NFL expert picks for the Denver Broncos vs New England Patriots.

Broncos Defense/Special Teams

I expect the Broncos to win this game, but they will need to score points in order to do so. I’m not convinced it will come from the running game, though, as the Patriots haven’t allowed a running back to rush for a touchdown since Week 10. On the other side, New England has allowed the fourth-fewest passing touchdowns over this same span. The Patriots may have already lost 11 games this season, but we can’t deny that Bill Belichick still knows how to work some defensive magic. So, where will the scoring come from on Christmas Eve?

Russell Wilson hasn’t thrown for more than 200 yards since Week 11, and I’m not willing to trust the Patriots. Hunter Henry and Zeke Elliott may have decent matchups, but they still have Bailey Zappe under center. Speaking of Zappe, he has four interceptions with just three starts this season. The Broncos’ defense is second in the NFL in takeaways and New England has allowed four defensive touchdowns this season.

Denver also has one of the most explosive returners in the NFL with rookie Marvin MimsJr., who is a threat to score every time he gets an opportunity. The Patriots could be without Matthew Slater, arguably the most prolific special teams player in NFL history. With two offenses facing good defenses whom I don’t want to trust, I think the best value is on the Broncos’ defense or special teams to deliver a Christmas gift to us!

Questions Of The Day

Could a defensive player, like a safety or linebacker, score an anytime touchdown on a fumble recovery or interception return tonight?

Yes, a defensive player can score a touchdown in this game.

Should we consider placing an anytime touchdown scorer parlay based on potential scoring trends and matchups?

This is one matchup where I certainly won’t suggest placing an anytime touchdown parlay. The odds suggest this to be a low-scoring game with few touchdowns scored throughout.
