Bombers Favored Over Stampeders
Canadian football fans will not want to miss this Friday’s matchup: a heavyweight tilt between two unbeaten teams as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the Calgary Stampeders. The pair are not only No. 1 and No. 2 in our weekly Power Rankings but two of the top Grey Cup contenders per the CFL lines and odds. Winnipeg is favored by over a field goal.
Stampeders Remain Top Adversary for Bombers
The Stampeders have arguably been the toughest opponent for the Blue Bombers. In their last five meetings, four have been decided by four points or fewer. Calgary won two and in their last matchup, the Stamps limited the Bombers to just 111 passing yards. Though Winnipeg outgained Calgary overall, the Stamps walked away with a 13-12 win.
Bo Levi Mitchell is still not the same dominant force he was, but he’s starting to get things going. Along with Jake Maier, Calgary has a potent one-two punch at quarterback while Malik Henry has emerged as a star receiver and the CFL’s leader in receiving yards.
With Calgary’s offense now humming, the defense will look to frustrate the Bombers, as they have done in recent meetings. The Stampeders have held Winnipeg to less than 20 points in their last two games. Calgary is allowing just 14.5 points. The “under” may be worth betting online whenever Calgary plays.
Bombers Rise Up to Their Competition
A little bit of trash talk may have been what the Blue Bombers needed. After BC Lions defensive back Marcus Sayles dismissed Winnipeg’s “vanilla offense”, the Bomber served him that same vanilla offense on top of some humble pie. It also happened to be in front of the biggest TV audience in the nation this season.

Prior to the game against the Lions, the Bombers appeared to be floundering. This team had pedestrian offensive outings in barely beating Ottawa and Toronto, who have combined for just one win together. But heading to the BC Place, Winnipeg “turned up” and looked every bit like the two-time defending Grey Cup champions.
Against the Stampeders, Winnipeg gets its toughest test. The Bombers have won three of the last five outings against them. The sportsbook gives Winnipeg the edge, though Bombers’ backers may have to sweat.
Stampeders vs Blue Bombers Head-to-Head
The Bombers and Stampeders have been evenly matched. In their last 10 meetings, Winnipeg is 6-4 straight-up but their spread records are an even 5-5. The over/under is also split at 5-5. Seven of their last eight games were decided by eight points or fewer.

Stampeders vs Blue Bombers Prediction
The Stampeders are best equipped to deal with the Blue Bombers. They have an experienced quarterback in Mitchell who is familiar with going against the Bombers’ elite defense while Maier has shown he’s capable of making solid decisions. On defense, Calgary should frustrate Zach Collaros and the Winnipeg offense.
At the current betting odds, this is “Calgary or pass.” We’re impressed with Winnipeg’s shellacking of the Lions but the Stampeders are a savvier veteran team and Dave Dickenson has the coaching chops to match Mike O’Shea
