It’s hard to imagine that the last time we saw football, the 17,000 diss tracks from Kendrick Lamar and Drake did not exist. Taylor Swift had not dropped a new album. The Chiefs were dominant. Okay, some things never change.

This game is sure to be billed as Caleb Williams versus C.J. Stroud, but will either star quarterback be playing? Let’s dive into what we know about this NFL preseason opener.

Here’s what you need to know about the Texans-Bears Hall of Fame Game.

The Bears Are 2-Point Favorites Versus the Texans, But Should They Be?

Neither coach has revealed the team’s game plan in terms of who will play in the preseason matchup. That has not stopped Williams from campaigning to make his NFL debut.

I would love to get out there and play,” Williams explained, per NFL.com. “It’s pretty awesome to be at Canton, but it’s Coach’s decision.

Regardless of whether Williams will suit up for a series or two, we can expect to see a heavy dose of Bears backup Tyson Bagent.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans only said “we’ll see” when asked whether Stroud will play. Houston is likely to focus more on veterans Davis Mills and Case Keenum against Chicago.

Texans vs Bears Pick: Ride With Houston and the Over

Betting the NFL preseason is a bit of a choose your own adventure. This is not typically the time of year to go all-in at the sportsbook given so much uncertainty from game to game.

That said, maybe you want to get back into the practice of betting online. Why not throw a few shekels on the opener?

I’m riding with the Texans for a few key reasons. The preseason matchups are going to be won or lost by the second- and third-string players.

You could do a lot worse than Keenum and Mills at quarterback. One of these teams made the playoffs and another franchise lost 10 games in 2023.

Yes, the Bears were aggressive this offseason, but the Texans still have more depth heading into the season. Look for Houston to not only cover the spread but win the game outright.

The bet that I love the most is going over on the point total. Vegas setting the total at 32 feels like a typo. There are plenty of ways for this to go over, whether it is bad defense or good offensive plays from the backups.

Regardless, taking the over is my best NFL pick for the Texans-Bears matchup as we hope for a Hall of Fame ROI.
