Dallas Stars Last Season Performance
The 2022-23 season was a success for the Dallas Stars, finishing with a 47-21-14 regular-season record and clinching a spot in the postseason.
The Stars took down Minnesota in six games in the first round of the playoffs to meet Seattle in round two. There, Dallas downed the Kraken in seven games to advance to the Western Conference Final. The Stars lost to Las Vegas, the eventual Stanley Cup champion, in six games in the WCF.
Offseason Changes
Dallas Stars Key Additions
The Stars made a few moves in the offseason to try to boost their roster, starting with signing defenseman Gavin Bayreuther to a one-year deal. Bayreuther previously played in Dallas in the 2018-19 season and recorded 14 points last season.
Dallas also signed a pair of centers to one-year deals in Matt Duchene and Sam Steel. Duchene should add scoring for the Stars after scoring 22 goals and tallying 34 assists last year while Steel added 28 points from 10 goals and 18 assists last season.
The last addition the Stars made in the offseason was center Craig Smith, who signed a one-year deal. Smith should add some more depth to the position after a season in which he recorded 16 points combined with the Bruins and Capitals last season.
Dallas Stars Key Subtractions
Dallas also made a couple of trades in the offseason, sending left wing Fredrik Olofsson to Colorado and defenseman Colin Miller to the Devils. Olofsson played in 28 games for the Wings last season, tallying four points, while Miller recorded 21 points in 79 games for Dallas.
Dallas Stars Head Coaching Analysis
Peter DeBoer finished up his first season as head coach of the Stars. DeBoer ended a solid first season with Dallas, leading the team to a 47-21-14 record, second in the division and a trip to the Western Conference Finals.
DeBoer was the last head coach of Las Vegas, spending three seasons with the Golden Knights. He led the Knights to two straight Western Conference Finals in his first two seasons before they missed the playoffs in his third season, resulting in his dismissal. DeBoer ended his time in Vegas with a 43-31-8 overall record. He has also been head coach of the Panthers, Devils and Sharks.
Dallas Stars Prediction for the 2023-24 Season
After a mainly successful 2022-23 season and not losing any key players in the offseason, the Stars should be slated to make another run this year, with NHL odds heavily favoring them to return to the postseason again.
With one of the league’s top goalies in Jake Oettinger and one of the best scorers in Jason Robertson, Dallas should expect another successful season, with NHL predictions giving it the fourth-best odds at winning the West. The West is competitive, but with depth on the Stars’ scoring lines and a strong defense, they have the potential to go even further this year and make it to the Stanley Cup Finals.
