The NHL Grand Salami barely went under on Thursday thanks to a pair of shutouts. However, at least six games produced six or more goals and two featured nine-goal outcomes. We don’t expect this to stop now as the NHL betting odds may have a Grand Salami total that is a tad too low.
New Jersey Devils vs New York Rangers
The New Jersey Devils are as hot as the residence of their namesake. Eight of their last 10 game totals have gone over thanks to either poor defense or hot scoring on the Devils’ part. At least one team has scored six or more goals in seven of their last 10. This plays into the New York Rangers’ hands as they look to continue the trend of overs cashing.
Pick: Over 6 (-120)
Detroit Red Wings vs Tampa Bay Lightning
Prepare for a surge of offense when the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning meet. The over has cashed in seven of Detroit’s last eight games and four of Tampa Bay’s last six. Who could forget the 17-goal bonanza that the Red Wings played with Toronto? We may not come close to that tally here, but seven is very doable.
Pick: Over 6½ (-115)
Minnesota Wild vs Buffalo Sabres
The Minnesota Wild snapped their four-game skid with a 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. They look to put up another high-scoring effort against the Buffalo Sabres, a team that is also coming off a five-goal performance. Buffalo is giving up nearly 3.5 goals at home, which will help Minnesota’s road games stay hot. Five of the Wild’s last six have gone over on the sportsbook.
Pick: Over 6½ (-110)
Los Angeles Kings vs Columbus Blue Jackets
Patrik Laine has been unconscious for the Columbus Blue Jackets, having recorded 14 goals and 21 points in his last 13 games. Columbus has averaged over four goals in this span, which is third-most among teams with 12-plus games. They may meet their match against the Los Angeles Kings, a team that has averaged four goals in their last seven road games.
Pick: Over 6½ (-125)

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes look to snap a two-game skid. They failed to score a goal for only the second time this season. But at home, the Hurricanes are the one doing the neutralizing: Visitors average just under 2.2 goals per game, second-fewest in the league. When hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins, four of their last five games have gone under.
Pick: Under 6½ (-120)
Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets
The Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets are evenly matched division rivals. All three of their games this season have gone past regulation. Dallas can struggle scoring but has a top-tier defense while the Jets can score aplenty but give up just as many goals. What gives? The latter, as five of Winnipeg’s last seven division games have gone over.
Pick: Over 6 (-105)
Vegas Golden Knights vs Anaheim Ducks
The Vegas Golden Knights have been struggling on offense, but they visit the Anaheim Ducks, who have been generous at giving up goals. Six of the Ducks’ last eight games have gone over thanks to the team giving up at least four goals in these losses. Shaky goaltending should also lead to this one going over.
Pick: Over 5½ (-125)
And the Grand Salami is …
Bet online on the grand salami to go over this Friday. Several of these teams are on fire and/or have shaky defenses or goaltending. The NHL has seen plenty of scoring lately and we don’t expect this to slow down with less than two months left in the schedule.
