NHL Sunday Betting Preview: Stars Look To Keep Rolling

As expected, Sunday’s NHL schedule is a little lighter than Saturday’s full slate with the Super Bowl coming up later tonight. But, a big game to watch in the Central Division is the Colorado Avalanche visiting the Dallas Stars. Dallas isn’t going to come close to catching Colorado any time soon but the Stars are right on the cusp of a Wild-Card spot and have won seven of nine games. Taking down the Avalanche would be huge.

Let’s check the latest NHL picks, stats, injury reports, and NHL predictions. We’ve got plenty of NHL expert picks for you to consider.

All four games — all scheduled to end before Super Bowl LVI starts — with an eye to the NHL betting lines:

Buffalo Sabres vs Montreal Canadiens

There’s no rest for the weary and the Canadiens are right back at it on Sunday after dropping a tough 2-1 decision to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. Montreal has lost nine games in a row and things keep getting worse for the team that was somehow in the Stanley Cup Final months ago.

Things haven’t been much easier for the Sabres, who have lost three straight and need to get out of their funk. So, Buffalo is playing the Canadiens at an opportune time and has the rest advantage as well, which should help. Plus, Cayden Primeau will likely get the start in net for Montreal after starter Sam Montembeault made 40 saves against Columbus. Primeau has struggled.

Buffalo is a slight road favorite on the BetUS sportsbook, but this one is close to a pick’em. With how bad Montreal has been, you should ride with the Sabres.

Ottawa Senators vs Washington Capitals

The Senators have a tough back-to-back as they visit the Capitals a day after losing 2-0 to the Boston Bruins. Ottawa has lost two in a row after a pair of impressive post-break wins and will try to get back on track, likely with backup goalie Anton Forsberg in net. The Capitals snapped a short skid with a 5-2 win over the Canadiens on Thursday and would like to grab these two points considering how they’ve played as of late.

Washington is a huge home favorite and might be worth a look on the puckline as well. The over (six goals) is also an intriguing bet with the Senators on the rest disadvantage.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs New Jersey Devils

Both the Penguins and Devils have won back-to-back games and will each look to make it three in a row on Sunday in Newark. New Jersey will have star center Jack Hughes back in the mix after he missed the Devils’ last three games due to COVID-19 protocols.

The Devils desperately need his scoring ability in the lineup even though he wasn’t missed in New Jersey’s 7-4 blowout win of the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. In fact, the Devils have scored seven goals in each of their last two games.

However, it won’t be as easy to do that today against Tristan Jarry and Pittsburgh, which only gives up 2.52 goals per game and is a big road favorite in this game.

Colorado Avalanche vs Dallas Stars

Colorado still hasn’t lost in regulation in 2022 — the Avalanche are a ridiculous 16-0-2 — but could have a tough game in Dallas against the Stars who have won seven of nine and are 17-6-1 at home this season.

The Avalanche are such a juggernaut even without Nathan MacKinnon healthy that it’s never easy to beat them regardless of the situation. However, they have been vulnerable on the road and Dallas is playing really well right now.

Understandably, Colorado is a sizable road favorite so there’s value in taking Dallas straight-up on the moneyline if you’re betting online.
