NHL Tuesday Betting Recap: Milestone Among Goals Aplenty

Penguins Captain Crosby Lights Up Flyers Again for No. 500

Where else will we start other than with future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby scoring the 500th goal of his career as the Pittsburgh Penguins topped the visiting Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 in overtime.

It seems fitting that the milestone goal came against the Flyers because Crosby has made a habit of lighting the lamp against the rival Flyers. His first-period power-play goal was the 50th in 79 career games against Philadelphia which is 11 more than he has against any other team.

His Pittsburgh teammates jumped onto the ice to congratulate the team captain.

“All the guys coming onto the ice, that’s something I will always remember,” Crosby told the media after the game. “A lot of joy, just happy and try to take in the moment.”

Crosby put Pittsburgh up by a goal but Philadelphia scored three times in the second period to go up by two goals. Two Pittsburgh goals in 18 seconds in the third period tied the game before Kris Letang won the game in overtime.

Crosby also had an assist in the game, giving him 119 points in 79 games against Philadelphia. He joins Alexander Ovechkin as the only active player with 500 career regular-season goals.

Philadelphia defenseman Nick Seeler scored his first goal since Feb. 15, 2019, when the defenseman was playing for Minnesota while Scott Laughton had a goal and an assist for the Flyers.

Pittsburgh was 2-for-4 on the power play and improved to 14-6-5 at home .

Speaking of Ovechkin, he scored twice in the third period to lead the visiting Washington Capitals to a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators. Ovechkin now has 31 goals, two off the NHL lead, as he is bidding to lead the NHL in goals for the 10th time. Michael McCarron scored his first goal in 17 games for Nashville, which lost its third game in a row despite outshooting Washington 34-28.

Washington winning by three goals was listed by the NHL betting lines with a moneyline of +850.

The Dallas Stars snapped the Colorado Avalanche‘s franchise-record 19-game point streak with a 4-1 win. Dallas handed Colorado just its third regulation loss at home. The big guns delivered for Dallas as Joe Pavelski scored his 20th and 21st goals, both coming on the power play, Jason Robertson had his 21st goal and Tyler Seguin his 16th. Pavelski is tied for fifth in the NHL with 25 points since Jan. 1.

Nathan MacKinnon, playing in just his second game after missing four games with a concussion, had the only goal for Colorado. The Avalanche were 17-0-2 since their last regulation loss was at Nashville on December 16. The win by Dallas had a moneyline of +220, the highest of any of the winning teams on Tuesday.

Filip Chytil scored the tying goal in the third period and defenseman K’Andre Miller scored in the ninth round of the shootout as the New York Rangers topped the visiting Boston Bruins 2-1.

Charlie Coyle scored in the first period to give the Bruins the lead. Boston played without injured captain Patrice Bergeron as well as leading scorer Brad Marchand, who is in the midst of a six-game suspension for his actions against Pittsburgh goalie Tristan Jarry. The Bruins have now scored five goals in the last four games.

That the game needed a shootout to decide the winninger carried a moneyline from the Las Vegas odds of +900. Boston winger David Pastrnak failed to register a point for the third straight game and that scoreless showing had a payout of +150

Vlad Tarasenko had two goals and an assist as the visiting St. Louis Blues defeated the Ottawa Senators 5-2. The three-goal win paid +450.

Tarasenko, Pavel Buchnevich (three assists) and Robert Thomas (one goal, two assists) combined for nine points as St. Louis recorded its second consecutive five-goal game.

The Blues limited Ottawa, which got goals from Tim Stutzle and Parker Kelly, to only 20 shots on goal to record their 10th road win.

Rookie Dawson Mercer had a hand in three goals in the first period and early in the second period, but the New Jersey Devils gave up the game’s last five goals in a 6-3 loss to the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tampa Bay (+700) has the second-best odds to win the Stanley Cup. If it happens, the Lightning would be the first team to win three straight NHL titles since the New York Islanders won four in a row from 1980-84.

Victor Hedman, Pat Maroon and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare all had a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay, which picked up its 16th road win — the second most in the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay moved ahead of idle Florida and into first place in the Atlantic Division, although the Lightning have played two more games than Florida.

Jack Hughes and Yegor Sharangovich each had a goal and an assist for New Jersey.

Victor Olofsson scored twice in the final 2:55 of the third period as the Buffalo Sabres pulled away from the visiting New York Islanders for a 6-3 win.

Alex Tuch had a goal and an assist for his second straight multiple-point game. Dylan Cozens and Payton Krebs combined for five assists.

Kyle Palmieri scored twice and Anders Lee had a goal and an assist for the Islanders.

Something of note for those who bet online: It was the fourth game in a row involving the Sabres when had at least seven goals scored.

Tyler Toffoli scored in his first game since being traded by the Montreal Canadiens to help the Calgary Flames to a 6-2 win over the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets.

Calgary, which outshot Columbus 41-20 and had another 14 shot attempts blocked, got some goals from unlikely sources. Dillon Dube, who didn’t have a point in his last 13 games, had a shorthanded goal. Adam Ruzicka scored for the first time in eight games and added an assist while defenseman Erik Gudbranson had his first goal in seven games.

Defensemen Adam Boqvist and Zach Werenski had the goals for Columbus, which had won four straight games that were all decided by one goal.

Kailer Yamamoto, Zach Hyman and Evander Kane scored in the final five minutes to lift the visiting Edmonton Oilers to a 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist to move into a tie for the NHL scoring lead with teammate Leon Draisaitl.

Edmonton is 3-0-0 since Jay Woodcroft took over as the coach following the firing of Dave Tippett. The Oilers are now in playoff position, tied with the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks for third place in the Pacific Division with 55 points. Edmonton has played the fewest games among the three teams to give them the edge.
