Totals Preview
Over half of the nine games on the NHL betting lines for Tuesday are unpredictable, meaning they could go either way on the total. But that’s just hockey. One night, a team is scoring seven goals and the next it is giving up seven (looking at you, Calgary).
Ottawa Senators at Tampa Bay Lightning
The Ottawa Senators are one of the best teams to bet online when going for the under on the total: 62.7 percent of their games have gone this way (18-32-1). We can thank their anemic offense and some hot goaltending as the reason why. Even if most of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s home games against Ottawa lead to high-scoring, this one may not.
Pick: Under 6 (-115)
New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets
The well has run dry on the Columbus Blue Jackets. After a four-game stretch where they averaged six goals per game, the team has managed just two in their last two games (both losses). The New Jersey Devils, on the other hand, have averaged six goals in their last three and have scored at least six in their last four wins. Prepare for one team to go off here.
Pick: Over 6½ (-125)
Edmonton Oilers at Philadelphia Flyers
Injury-riddled teams meet as the Edmonton Oilers visit the Philadelphia Flyers. These squads have produced some blockbuster scoring with their last three games going over the total thanks to averaging 8.7 goals. The Flyers are scoring just 2.3 goals at home in 2022 and four of Edmonton’s last five games against the Metropolitan Division have gone under.
Pick: Under 6½ (-120)
Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings
The Carolina Hurricanes storm into the Little Caesars Arena where the Detroit Red Wings will be ready for another ridiculous scoring night. But we don’t need 17 goals to cash the over here. Seven of Detroit’s last eight home games have gone over, as well as 11 of Carolina’s 14 road games against the conference.
Pick: Over 6½ (-105)
The Maple Leafs defeated the Red Wings on Saturday, 10-7.
It made for the most combined goals in a game since the Jets beat the Flyers 9-8 on Oct. 27, 2011.
In the 95-year rivalry between the 2 original 6 teams, the total is second only to an 11-7 Leafs win on March 17, 1946. pic.twitter.com/F0ptAu8Iql

Calgary Flames at Minnesota Wild
The Calgary Flames have a rematch with the Minnesota Wild after they dropped seven goals on them. That was two straight games that a team scored seven goals in a Calgary game. Can we get a third? Six of Calgary’s last eight games have gone over as well as six of Minnesota’s last seven. With no notable injuries to the offenses, the trends should continue.
Pick: Over 6½ (Ev)
Montreal Canadiens at Winnipeg Jets
These teams meet for the first time since the Montreal Canadiens swept the Winnipeg Jets in the Stanley Cup playoffs last season. Montreal has rejuvenated its offense under new coach Martin St. Louis, while Winnipeg has allowed at least three goals in nine of their last 10 games. The over has gone over in eight of these teams’ last 11 meetings.
Pick: Over 6 (Ev)
New York Islanders at Colorado Avalanche
As a combo breaker, don’t bank on plenty of goals when the Colorado Avalanche host the New York Islanders. The Avs are allowing just 2.4 goals at home in 2022. Scoring has been more bountiful when the Islanders play on the road in 2022 and yet most of their road games have still gone under (6-7) overall.
Pick: Under 6 (-120)
San Jose Sharks at Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights are true to the spirit of their city as they play high-risk, high-reward hockey. This leads to plenty of scoring on both ends, with their home games producing over six goals on average. However, the San Jose Sharks are barely scoring 2.6 goals a game. They have scored one goal or less in half of their last 10 games.
Pick: Under 5½ (Ev)
Boston Bruins at Anaheim Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks are turning into the team we all thought they were. If they are not failing to score goals (one goal in their last two games), they are getting smoked (allowing four or more goals in six of their last seven games). The Boston Bruins are peaking offensively, averaging 4.2 goals in their last five. This could be another brutal night for Anaheim.
Pick: Over 5½ (-120)
And The Grand Salami is …
Betting on the over for Grand Salamis is so much more fun and even if half of Tuesday’s games can go either way, we’ve seen a resurgence in scoring lately. The sportsbook is seeing plenty of action on the over for a good reason.
