- Check the latest NHL odds as three teams play their season openers on Friday.
Even though the San Jose Sharks failed to protect a three-goal lead, No. 1 draft pick Macklin Celebrini showed what all the buzz was about with a goal and an assist in the first period in one of four games on Thursday to feature at least nine goals.
The Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning will be the next three teams to play their 2024-25 season openers with the NHL spread favoring Carolina against the Lightning in the first of four games scheduled for Friday night.
The BetUS sportsbook odds list all four home teams as the favorite. Over the last two days, the home favorites have won only three of nine games.
Let’s look ahead to Friday’s action.
3 Ways to Bet on Friday’s NHL Games
1. Michkov To Debut For Flyers
Maybe not since Eric Lindros made his debut in 1992 has there been a more anticipated opening game for a Philadelphia Flyers player than for Matvei Michkov, who hits the ice on Friday against the Vancouver Canucks.
When Michkov dropped to No. 7 in the 2023 NHL Draft, he was under contract in the KHL and it was uncertain how many years it would take for him to be cleared to come over to the NHL. It proved to be a much shorter wait than expected.
Michkov made NHL news with seven points in four games during the preseason. When looking at the NHL futures odds, Michkov is battling Celebrini to be the front-runner in the odds of winning the Calder Trophy.

Oliver Kapanen and Maxim Tsyplakov join Celebrini as the only players so far this season to record at least one point in their NHL debuts. Tampa Bay’s Conor Geekie of the Tampa Bay Lightning is another player showing up on the Calder Trophy odds set to hit the ice on Friday.

2. Can The St. Louis Blues Rally Once Again?
So, just how important are NHL preseason results? The St. Louis Blues were 2-5 in the preseason with both wins coming in overtime. They can become the first team this season to open 3-0.
The Blues rallied from a two-goal deficit to top the Seattle Kraken 3-2 in the season opener behind two goals from Jordan Kyrou. Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, who came over from Edmonton when the Oilers failed to match the offer sheets to the two 23-year-olds, teamed up for the other goal.
The Blues were down by three goals to San Jose on Thursday before scoring three times in the third period. Defenseman Justin Faulk tied the game with 47 seconds left in regulation and Brayden Schenn won it in overtime.

St. Louis offers value in the sports betting odds at +170 as the road underdog against the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas scored eight times in a win over the Colorado Avalanche in its only game this season. The total is at 6 for that game.

3. NHL Parlay Bet to Consider On Friday
With only four games being played, the NHL parlay options are a little limited. Fortunately, there are plenty of proven goal scorers in action in those four games.
We will take Jack Eichel of the Vegas Golden Knights at +110, Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks at +179 and Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov at +140 to score a goal. Adding Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson at +179 to be an anytime goal scorer would add value to the parlay at +3900.
