Colorado Seeking to Avoid Third Straight Defeat
Islanders Have Avs’ Number at Home
The Colorado Avalanche is skidding as they rematch the New York Islanders in the UBS Arena. Colorado defeated the Islanders last Tuesday but have lost six straight games on the road against them. The NHL odds are favoring Colorado by quite a bit as they look to avoid a three-game losing streak.

Rare Skid for Colorado
The Colorado Avalanche are human after all. With their loss to Calgary, the Avalanche lost a consecutive game for only the third time this season. The last time they lost two straight? On Nov. 6. And the last time they lost three straight? When they started the season 1-3.
Colorado has otherwise been near-peerless even as a road team. Its 66.7 point percentage on the road is top-seven in the NHL and the Avalanche are +16 in goal differential. They did just lose to Arizona in a massive upset last week, but Colorado has won nine of its last 11 road games.
Going by the advanced metrics, Colorado is still an above-average team in terms of possession and scoring chance stats. Of course, by its lofty standards, that won’t cut it. Still, it would take the home team to perform above their expectation to confidently oust the Avalanche. Bet online on that.
Islanders Still Tough at Home
The season has not gone well for the New York Islanders, to say the least. At this point, the Isles have less than a one percent chance to make the playoffs. The team was done in for many reasons: injuries, a long road trip to start the season, and potential fatigue from two deep playoff runs in the last two years.
But the most obvious reason is a lack of goal-scoring. The Islanders didn’t seem to be bothered by this for the last two seasons, but that’s come to bite them this time. They are producing the fifth-fewest goals in the league and have the eighth-worst power play.
Berube on the Islanders’ defense and the #stlblues in the 2-1 loss: “That’s a good defensive team. … You have to work. We didn’t want to put the puck in and go get it and work until the third period.” pic.twitter.com/lhvudE5tuH

However, the team is still tough defensively and is backstopped by an elite netminder in Ilya Sorokin. At home, the Islanders are just 11-11-4 (thanks to losing its first seven) but are giving up just 2.3 goals, the fourth-fewest in the NHL. If it could improve on its offense, the second-worst, it would be a good underdog to back for online sports betting.
Avalanche at Islanders Head-to-Head
The Colorado Avalanche have lost six straight at the New York Islanders’ home. But on the NHL’s Las Vegas odds, these teams tend to be evenly matched. In their last 10 games, both teams have a 5-4-1 record with an equal number of goals scored (27).
Avalanche at Islanders Prediction
Winning against the New York Islanders on their own ice is tough and the record can be misleading. But it would take a big effort from the visitor to overcome. The Colorado Avalanche should be able to pull it off even with the lofty NHL line.
The Avalanche will outplay the Islanders and control the puck for over 52 percent of the game. They will be gaining more scoring chances and either Darcy Kuemper or Pavel Francouz have been solid on the road. The Isles do not have the firepower to beat the Avalanche, who will snap their losing skid on the road against New York in a low-scoring affair.
