Incalculable amounts of bad blood.
On Nov. 2, the Toronto Maple Leafs handed the Boston Bruins a 3-2 shootout loss at the TD Garden. But the overriding memories from the game was an injury suffered by Toronto defenseman Timothy Liljegren in the first period after a hit from Boston’s Brad Marchand, and a shocking lack of response from the Leafs.
The teams will meet Saturday night in Toronto in one of the most highly anticipated games of the season, which should make for fascinating decision making when making NHL bets against the spread picks.
Two days later after the pyrrhic win, Toronto enforcer Ryan Reaves said it was “lucky” for Marchand that he wasn’t on the ice at the same time as Boston’s captain at any point following the hit. Chances are good that the two will cross paths Saturday night since the Leafs will have the last change.
And, then another chapter in the Bruins-Leafs rivalry will be written.
Bruins vs Maple Leafs Best Bets
While having six more points than their Original Six rivals (33-27), Boston is -115 in NHL betting odds.
And there is a reason for this development. Even though the Bruins are coming off a 3-0 win over San Jose, Boston is 5-3-2 in its last 10 games.
“We’ve just been an easy team to play against,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said after Wednesday’s practice, according to the Boston Globe. “Not just the last three games, but probably the last six (or) seven.”
And while that’s suboptimal, it’s world’s better than what’s going on in the Centre of the Hockey Universe.
Even though the Leafs are 7-2-1 in their last 10 and have won two straight, Toronto is averaging a goal against 54 seconds after scoring, which isn’t great. It becomes worse when coming to the realization it has happened six times.
“It is a focus thing,” Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said Wednesday, according to the Toronto Star. “To me, it’s an awareness.”
A collective lack of situational awareness has been an overriding issue for the Leafs, which came to a head in Tuesday’s 2-1 shootout win over the Panthers when television cameras caught Keefe berating a player on the bench following a soft play that allowed Florida to counterattack
