Bank With Bet on Rangers to Skate Past Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers have been rivals for 97 years. Both entered the NHL in the 1926-27 season and are two of the Original Six franchises.

Both have Stanley Cup banners and legends residing in the Hockey Hall of Fame. But rarely have both been good at the same time.

Until now.

Entering tonight’s game, the Rangers have the second-best record in the NHL while Detroit is in third place in the Atlantic Division.

All of which should make for compelling viewing and interesting decision-making processes when it comes to making the best hockey bets today.

Red Wings vs Rangers Best Bets

New York is a -200 moneyline favorite in tonight’s NHL odds.

With good reason. The Rangers have won seven of their last 10 games, are tied with Vegas for the fourth-best goal differential, and have surrendered the second-fewest goals in the league.

To summarize: They are good.

They are also hurt.

Although it is likely that star defenseman Adam Fox will make his return from a lower-body injury that has cost him 10 games, the Rangers will not have center Filip Chytil (upper-body injury) and right wing Kaapo Kakko (lower-body injury), both of whom were placed on Long Term Injured Reserve Tuesday.

Whereas the Rangers are down two fairly significant players, Detroit added a future Hall-of-Famer with the announcement of the signing of Patrick Kane to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.

Kane joins a Red Wings squad that ranks fourth in the league with a 3.70 goals scored per game average, and fifth with 74 goals scored. Dylan Larkin leads Detroit with 21 points, and Alex DeBrincat –who played with Kane in Chicago– has scored a team-high 12 goals.

By adding Kane, Detroit –theoretically– added to its offensive potency. The 35-year-old has a career slashline of 451 goals and 786 assists for 1,237 points in 1,180 games, an average of 1.06 points per game.

NHL Pick: New York Rangers -200

Question Of The Day

Which team is most likely to have a player ejected from the game?

Both teams are remarkably well-disciplined. New York has been assessed four major penalties, three misconducts and no match penalties this season, while Detroit has three majors, two misconducts and no match penalties. Therefore it is likely that neither team will have a player ejected.
