Minnesota looks to extend its winning streak to four games in the only one of Tuesday’s NHL matchups between teams with losing records. The NHL betting lines are favoring the visiting Wild but the game against the Calgary Flames is approaching Pick’Em status.
Despite the recent surge, Minnesota is ahead of only the Chicago Blackhawks in the Central Division standings while Calgary is fourth in the Pacific Division. If the playoffs began today, neither the Wild nor the Flames would be among the eight Western Conference teams vying for the championship.
Minnesota has just three road wins but in its last game away from home, the Wild topped Nashville behind three goals from Connor Dewar. Calgary is coming off a 4-3 loss at home to division rival Vancouver. Keep that in mind when it comes to the hockey bets today.
Calgary has won six of the last eight meetings with Minnesota. The Flames won two of the three matchups a season ago, although each team had a shutout win and both the Wild and Flames finished with six goals.
Defenseman Zach Bogosian is questionable for Minnesota as a result of an upper-body injury.
For Calgary, center Elias Lindholm and goalie Jacob Markstrom are questionable. Defenseman Oliver Kylington as well as forwards Jakob Pelletier and Kevin Rooney are out.
When looking at the NHL futures odds, Minnesota and Calgary were both priced at +3300 in the odds of winning the Stanley Cup coming into the season. With the early struggles, those odds have moved to +6000.
Minnesota Responds to Coaching Change
Minnesota has usually had pretty solid goaltending in recent years. However, the Wild ranks 27th in goals allowed per game, is 28th in save percentage and are allowing more power-play goals per game than any other team.
Those defensive deficiencies led to the firing of head coach Dean Evason and assistant coach Bob Woods.
Minnesota is 3-0 and has outscored St. Louis, Nashville and Chicago 13-3 since John Hynes took over the head coaching duties.
When looking at the NHL odds, keep in mind that four of Minnesota’s last five games went under the total.
Huberdeau, Flames Have Been Underwhelming
It is not a good sign that fourth-line winger A.J. Greer has as many goals this season as Jonathan Huberdeau.
Huberdeau has 30 goals and 85 assists in 80 games during the 2021-22 season with the Florida Panthers. He was traded for Matthew Tkachuk. Since that trade, Huberdeau has 19 goals and 51 assists in 103 games while Tkachuk has 44 goals and 84 assists while appearing in the same number of games during the regular season.
Huberdeau hasn’t scored a goal in six games while Nazem Kadri has scored twice in his last nine games.
The NHL betting line total has gone over in six of Calgary’s last eight games.
Zary, Rossi Prop Picks
Take a look at the options for a pair of talented youngsters when it comes time to make NHL bet predictions.
Calgary’s Connor Zary had three goals and five assists in his first seven games. Since then, the former first-round pick has no goals and two assists in six games.
Minnesota’s Marco Rossi scored twice against Chicago to give him three goals and four assists in his last eight games.

It could be worth going with Zary at -114 to record at least one point in this matchup. Rossi provides even better value at +125 to finish with at least one point..
Four of Minnesota’s last five games have gone under the NHL Las Vegas odds total.

Wild vs Flames Game Prediction
Predicted Score: Wild 4, Flames 3
Go with the Over
Both teams have struggled to keep pucks out of their net. Goalies Filip Gustavsson and Marc-Andre Fleury have combined with a 3.55 goals-against average, with Gustavsson expected to be between the pipes.
With Markstrom sidelined with a finger injury, Dan Vladar and rookie Dustin Wolf have split goaltending duties with mixed results.
NHL Pick: Over 6 (-125)
Could There Be Late Scoring Barrage?
Calgary and Minnesota rank fourth and fifth in the NHL in goals allowed in the first period of games.
However, more goals have been scored in the third period of games with the teams combining for 54 goals in the third period while allowing 53. With Minnesota on a roll right now, why not roll with the Wild to make it four wins in a row?
NHL Pick: Minnesota Wild -115
Questions Of The Day
Between Elias Lindholm and Nazem Kadri, which player is most likely to score a goal in the Wild vs Flames game?
If Lindholm is good to go, he would be the better choice to light the lamp in this matchup.
Is Mats Zuccarello a good bet to have more than one assist in the Wild vs Flames game?
Zuccarello is coming off a three-point game and he has points in nine straight games so he could have a two-assist game.
