Penguins Can Move Into Playoff Position
The New York Islanders blew a chance to improve their playoff standing on Monday. In case you missed the NHL news, the Isles flopped as a -180 favorite in Washington and now have just a one-point lead on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Isles hold the eighth and final playoff spot but now the Pens have a game in hand. They’ll use that up on Tuesday when they face the Chicago Blackhawks, who are tied for the least points in the NHL.
The Blackhawks have lost 11 out of their past 12. Is there any reason to think they can spring an upset?
Blackhawks Have Little Motivation
Ever since the Blackhawks decided to part ways with Patrick Kane and Max Domi at the trade deadline, their season has sunk. It’s not that they were great before, but now they’ve lost 11 of their last 12, allowing three or more goals in every single one of those games.
They’ve only been able to score over two goals in four of those 12 games as well. How can you even think of backing this team if you bet online?
This team has nothing to play for and many feel they’re better off losing to get a better draft pick. They’re a huge dog in this spot, though, and the NHL odds are enticing.
Penguins Starting to Heat Up
Pittsburgh looked like they were fading from postseason contention recently but now they’re back in it. With a 5-1 win over the Red Wings on Saturday, on top of losses from the New York Islanders and the Florida Panthers on Monday, Pittsburgh has closed the gap.
They are currently just one point behind the Islanders and two behind the Panthers for the final spots in the Eastern Conference.
With a stretch of 16 consecutive playoff appearances on the line, star Sidney Crosby has come alive. Against Detroit, he netted two goals and an assist to become the 15th player in league history to score 1,500 points throughout his career.
He should feast here against a Blackhawks defense that has shown little resistance. You might want to consider over on some Crosby-specific props in the sportsbook.
