Columbus Looking to Play Spoiler
Rangers 8-1-1 Over Last 10 Games
The New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets have different agendas right now. The Rangers would love to move by rival New Jersey to get a home-ice advantage for the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Columbus can help itself by losing as the Blue Jackets are tied with San Jose for the fewest points in the NHL.
This is a good season to finish at the bottom of the NHL standings with a potential franchise-changing player available in the upcoming NHL Draft in Connor Bedard.
Columbus is consistent as the Blue Jackets have the fewest wins both at home and on the road among Eastern Conference teams. Only Columbus and Arizona have yet to hit double digits in road wins. The Rangers have a slightly better record on the road than at home, so keep that in mind when making NHL picks.
When looking at some of the NHL news, winger Patrik Laine, who is second on the team with 22 goals and 52 points, and Mathieu Olivier are out for Columbus. Goalie Elvis Merzilkins is questionable while defensemen Jake Bean, Erik Gudbranson and Zach Werenski are out for the season, so it is no wonder that Columbus is struggling to keep goals out of its own net.
For the Rangers, defenseman Ryan Lindgren is questionable. He has missed 12 of the last 13 games.
According to the NHL odds, the Rangers (+1200) are tied for fifth in the odds to win the Stanley Cup title. Columbus became the first Eastern Conference team to be eliminated from playoff contention.
Lighting the Lamp
Recent Columbus games have certainly not been boring with six of the last seven featuring at least seven combined goals scored.
There have been 32 goals scored over the last three contests – 14 of them by the Blue Jackets –so it is not the best time to be a goalie in Columbus.
It all started with the Blue Jackets erasing a three-goal lead to top Washington 7-6 on Jack Roslovic’s second goal of the game. It was a different story the last time out with Montreal cruising to the 8-2 win.
There have been 11 different goal scorers over the last three games with Roslovic, Boone Jenner, Eric Robinson and defenseman Adam Boqvist leading the way with two goals each.
The Las Vegas odds total has gone over in each of the last five games played by Columbus.
Rangers Starting to Roll
The New York Rangers appear to be getting hot at the perfect time.
New York is 8-1-1 over the last 10 games and it should not be surprising to see who is leading the charge.
Artemi Panarin has five goals and eight assists and Mika Zibanejad five goals and seven assists during that span.
Panarin, who has topped the 80-point mark for the fifth time in the last six seasons, had three multi-point efforts in a span of four games before being held without a goal or an assist in Saturday’s win over Florida. He hasn’t gone back-to-back games without a point since late February.
Zibanejad had five goals and six assists in a span of six games before also being held scoreless against the Panthers the last time out.
Stop us if you’ve heard this before – but “it seems like Mika is always in the right position.”

Blue Jackets vs Rangers Picks and Prediction
The Rangers are closing in on a playoff spot and this is the kind of game when they will be expected to take care of business against the worst team in the Eastern Conference.
The Rangers have the best penalty-killing numbers since March 1, giving up just three goals on 34 opposing power plays with a short-handed goal mixed in as well.
That has not been the case for Columbus as the Blue Jackets have given up goals on eight of the last 25 penalty kills.
The Rangers are 31-18-4 when listed by the sportsbook as the favorite. Columbus is 19-45-7 as the underdog.
The New York Rangers are listed at -350 in our Las Vegas hockey odds. This means that if you wager $100 on the Rangers, you have a chance to win $29. Columbus is +290, offering a chance to win $290 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the New York Rangers a 77.78% chance to win, with the Columbus Blue Jackets at 25.64%.
