Boston Bruins at New York Rangers Game Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions
Original Six Rivals Set to Collide
Rangers Coming Off Lengthy Break
There is nothing like a good ol’ matchup between the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers, two of the Original Six and a pair of Stanley Cup contenders. Given recent performances and absences, the NHL odds favor the Rangers to win a third straight game over the Bruins. But has the two-week break made the Rangers rusty?

Bruins Stay Tough
At some point, the Boston Bruins’ grueling style of play will wear them down. It appears to be this season as the team is not only dealing with injuries, but also a suspension to Brad Marchand. Among its list of banged-up players include Patrice Bergeron while goaltender Tuukka Rask decided to retire.
Boston is still in a playoff spot and should be a shoo-in for the Eastern Conference’s top eight simply because the teams behind them are pretty bad. But the Bruins are not the same elite team.
They got blown out 6-0 by the Hurricanes and are only 0-4-1 against the last five playoff teams they’ve faced. Boston is also only 4-10 as an underdog and is down over 11 units on the moneyline. These are rough times for Bruins on the online sports betting lines.
Rock and Roll With Rangers
While the Bruins are in need of a break, the New York Rangers just got one. Coming back from a two-week layoff could be great for the team, especially for the overworked Igor Shesterkin. A Vezina Trophy front-runner, Shesterkin leads the NHL in save percentage and goals saved above expectations.
I just asked Igor Shesterkin if he’s noticed his name coming up in the Vezina Trophy conversation.
“No, I don’t speak English,” he said in English 🤣#NYR

The Rangers have been heavily dependent on Shesterkin. The team is scoring over three goals per game and is converting 25.6 percent of its power-play opportunities. But the Rangers are just 7-11-4 (5-4-2 with Shesterkin in net) when they allow at least three goals.
This team is only average on offense and does not have the firepower to overcome bad netminding, especially when they are constantly outshot and give up the second-most scoring chances on 5v5. It’s a white-knuckle experience betting online on the Rangers, but they are profitable (+2.3 units on the moneyline) so far.
Bruins at Rangers Head-to-Head
The New York Rangers have won their last two games and three of the last four against the Boston Bruins. However, in a ten-game sample, the Bruins have won six times and have the advantage in most stats: goals, shots for, and special teams.
Bruins at Rangers Prediction
The last time these teams faced each other, the New York Rangers blew out the Boston Bruins on their own ice. Now, the Bruins will look to return the favor as they have won five of their last six games at Madison Square Garden. However, Boston will need at least three goals to beat the Rangers and we don’t see that happening with Shesterkin in net.
The Bruins average nearly 32 shots against the Rangers but have scored just 2.7 goals against them. With Marchand and potentially Bergeron out, generating offense will be even tougher. Instead, bank on the Rangers to overcome a slow start to beat the Bruins in a low-scoring game.
