Surging Blues Look to Stay Red Hot
The St. Louis Blues put a nine-game winning streak on the line when they host the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night. This should be one of the best NHL games on the schedule, and picking a winner won’t be easy.
Boston has not been playing great hockey of late and has lost three of its last five games. The Bruins still have 97 points and have clinched a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
St. Louis’ winning streak couldn’t have come at a better time. The Blues have 102 points and are in second place in the Central Division, one point ahead of the Minnesota Wild.
The NHL betting lines have the St. Louis Blues as the moneyline betting favorites at -130 over the Boston Bruins.
Bruins Want to Play Defense
The Boston Bruins have plenty of strong offensive players but this team wants to win games on the defensive end. Boston is allowing just 2.7 goals per game and will be trying to control the tempo.
Boston has killed over 82 percent of its penalties. The Bruins have been relying on goaltender Jeremy Swayman to protect the ice in most of the biggest games.
David Pastrnak has scored 38 goals and Brad Marchand has tallied a team-high 73 points for the Bruins. Even though Boston wants to defend, goals will be needed to win this game.
Blues Keeps Scoring
The St. Louis Blues just scored seven goals in one period against the Nashville Predators, much to the liking of head coach Craig Berube. “They are playing for each other right now,” Berube said. “They are doing a good job. It’s all about the team.”
St. Louis is averaging 3.76 goals per game and that number has continued to rise during the winning streak. Vladimir Tarasenko leads the way with 33 goals and 76 points, but this is a team that is loaded with weapons.
Goaltender Ville Husso has taken over the primary reins in net, but St. Louis is still looking for better goaltending. The Blues are allowing 2.8 goals per game, which could cause some problems in the postseason.
Bruins vs Blues Head-to-Head
This will be just the second meeting of the season between the Bruins and Blues. St. Louis came away with a 4-2 win in the first game. There is some meaning behind this series, though, as the Blues and Bruins met up in the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals.
St. Louis won that series in seven games to capture the first Stanley Cup title in franchise history.
