Panthers Out to Rebound
It was appearing as if the Tampa Bay Lightning were about to cool off the NHL-leading Boston Bruins on Monday night. It was the Lightning with the first nine shots on goal, taking the early 1-0 lead. However, the Bruins scored the next five goals en route to a 5-3 win, which extended Boston’s run to seven games. Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron became the fourth player in franchise history to have 1,000 points with the club.
The good news regarding the Panthers is both of Boston’s losses this season have come on the road. The last defeat (in Toronto) came at the end of four straight road games. Perhaps that’s why the sportsbook has this essentially a pick’-em proposition.
According to the NHL playoff odds, the Bruins (+700) have the shortest odds to win the Stanley Cup championship among Eastern Conference teams, while Florida (+1400) is tied in third.
On the Road with Pastrnak
Boston winger David Pastrnak’s splits look good in pretty much any scenario. However, in the early portion of this season, some of his best work has been done outside of Massachusetts.
Among those who’ve appeared in more than one road game, only Edmonton’s Connor McDavid is averaging more points per away match than Pastrnak’s five goals and eight assists.
Pastrnak failed to record a road point (only time) in the Bruins‘ last loss, a 2-1 defeat to Toronto.
Four of those goals were at even strength. Linemate David Krejci missed three of those games but has six points in five road games.
The Las Vegas odds went under in eight of Boston’s last 10 road games against the Panthers.
Defensive Lapses Costing Florida
The Florida Panthers have taken 42 more shots on goal than their opponents over the last three games. All that work and one lousy point, courtesy of a shootout loss to Calgary.
The offense hasn’t been an issue with 11 goals in those three games. Florida surrendered 15 goals in those games (against Dallas, Calgary and Columbus), with two of the matches at home.
Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett have a combined three goals and seven assists over the last three. They’re just two of four skaters with positive plus/minus numbers during that stretch.
Sam Reinhart is -6 in those games while defensemen Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour are -2 and -3, respectively.
The NHL betting lines total has gone over in four of Florida’s last five.

Bruins vs Panthers Head-to-Head
Boston has won the last three meetings, and five of the last six. The last time the teams played in Florida, the Panthers won by a count of 4-1. That snapped a three-game home losing streak to Boston.
Four of the last five games in the series were “under” affairs, and just three of the last tilts were decided by one goal.
When the teams met back in October, Jake DeBrusk had two goals and an assist, Bergeron had a goal and an assist and Connor Clifton had two assists in a 5-3 win by the Bruins. Bennett, Colin White and Gustav Forsling each had a Panther goal and an assist.

Bruins vs Panthers Picks & Prediction
Preparing to play the team that has the most points in the NHL by losing to a Columbus team with the worst goal differential in the Eastern Conference is not ideal.
The Panthers would be encouraged to stay out of the penalty box because the Bruins have the second-best success rate on the power play during the month of November.
Winger Trent Frederic (upper body) and defenseman Jakub Zboril (illness) are both listed as questionable by Boston. Zboril’s missed the last three games, while Frederic left Monday’s win over Tampa Bay and did not return. The Bruins have been without defenseman Derek Forbort (broken right middle finger) since the first of the month. He’s with the team, taking part in drills.

The teams combined to go 0-for-7 on the power play in the first meeting of the season. Florida will be thrilled if this game is played at 5-on-5.
Boston is rolling right now. The Bruins can’t win every game, however. Wednesday maybe when the win streak comes to an end. Florida by a goal, so perhaps we cash not once, but twice here.
The Boston Bruins are listed at -105 in our Vegas NHL lines. This means that if you wager $100 on the Bruins, you have a chance to win $95.24. The Florida Panthers are -115, offering a chance to win $86.96 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Boston a 51.22% chance to win, with Florida at 53.49%.
