Bruins Buckle Down against the Rested Wild

The Boston Bruins snapped a two-game skid and now head to Minnesota as the favorites against the Wild. The NHL lines side with Boston although Minnesota is rested having played one game since Monday. The Wild prioritizes sharp two-way hockey and are 10-5-2 when it is coming off 2+ days’ rest. They could prove a formidable opponent for the NHL’s top team.

Boston Back To Winning

It’s been a tough past few games for Boston, which had lost three of four games prior to beating the Jets. Boston managed to shut Winnipeg out 3-0 despite getting outshot and outplayed for most of the game. But that just goes to show this team’s mettle and why it’s able to capitalize on the few opportunities it’s given.

Boston improved to an impressive 14-2-0 on the road when getting outshot by the opponent. Jeremy Swayman delivered big time in net with his third shutout. All the talk is on his mate, Linus Ullmark, but Swayman has played just as well this 2023: a 10-3-1 record with a 93.3 save percentage. His stellar play helps keep Boston a lucrative bet online.

The Bruins also stayed strong against Western opponents. The win over Winnipeg made Boston 12-2-0 as a visitor versus the Western Conference. Interestingly, its two losses were shocking NHL news versus Arizona and Chicago. Boston beat the likes of Edmonton, Dallas, and Vegas in their own arenas and held each to two goals or fewer.

Wild Need To Up Their Game

The Wild remain top three in the West thanks to being one of the best defensive teams. The last three games are a bit of an outlier as Minnesota has allowed 12 goals but have scored 17 in return. Without Kirill Kaprizov, Minnesota has seemingly overcompensated by turning on the jets on offense.

Against Boston, Minnesota should not try to attack too aggressively and at the expense of its defense. The Wild give up the fewest high-danger scoring chances on 5-on-5 when at home. Along with the eighth-ranked penalty kill, Minnesota allows 2.62 goals every home game. This makes them a solid NHL pick at the Xcel Energy Center.

But to beat Boston, as they almost did earlier in the season, the Wild will have to be sharpshooters. Their shooting percentage of 8.9% (6.7% on 5-on-5) won’t cut it. Combined with another strong outing from Marc-Andre Fleury in net and the Wild may just upset the NHL odds.

Jets 44-22-2
Avalanche 40-25
Wild 39-26-2
Capitals 37-28-2
