Teams Going in Opposite Directions
One of the best games in the NHL on Wednesday night will take place in Las Vegas as the Golden Knights host the Washington Capitals.
The Washington Capitals are going to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference as they already have 96 points. Washington has won four of its last five games and come into this one with momentum.
Vegas has lost three of its last four games and is in danger of missing the playoffs. The Golden Knights have 87 points and are in fourth place in the Pacific Division. They are four points out of the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The NHL betting lines at BetUS Sportsbook have the Vegas Golden Knights as the moneyline betting favorites at -140.
Capitals Cruising on Offensive End
The Washington Capitals love to play games at a fast pace, and that strategy has helped them go on a nice run over the last few weeks. Washington is now scoring over 3.4 goals per game while allowing 2.9.
Alex Ovechkin has not slowed down and he leads this team with 48 goals and 87points. Ovechkin always seems to rise to the occasion, and he will be looking to put on a show in Las Vegas.
Ilya Samsonov has started to play better in the blue paint for the Capitals. He has recorded three shutouts. Washington will look to keep the Golden Knights from turning things around on offense.
Golden Knights Needs to Find Offense
The Vegas Golden Knights have scored just two total goals in their last two games, and that includes a shutout loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Vegas is scoring over 3.1 goals per game but hasn’t been playing well of late.
Head coach Peter DeBoer said after the latest game that “It doesn’t get any more desperate than that. I would think that motivation would be the least of our problems right now.” Playing desperate does make the Golden Knights dangerous, but they have to take advantage of their opportunities.
Jonathan Marchessault leads the team with 29 goals and 64 total points. Goaltender Robin Lehner will also be a key in this game as he has to cool off a streaking offense.
Capitals vs Golden Knights Head-to-Head
This is just the second meeting between the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas picked up a 1-0 win over the Capitals back in January.

Capitals vs Golden Knights Prediction
The latest scores and odds for each team would lead you to believe that Washington will cruise in this game. The Vegas Golden Knights have not been playing well of late, but this is a team that has some terrific veteran leaders.
Washington has been putting up some big offensive numbers of late, but the team doesn’t always defend well. The Capitals continue to try and outscore every opponent, but that strategy might bite them on Wednesday night.
Vegas comes into this game with a ton of desperation. Look for the Golden Knights to get just enough offense, and taking them at -140 is the right bet in this game.
