The Detroit Red Wings are out for revenge against the Chicago Blackhawks when the rivals meet for the second consecutive game on Wednesday. Owners of the league’s second-worst record Detroit is completely desperate. Chicago is looking for another victory after heating up nicely over the last two weeks.

Before we find out, here is a look at tonight’s NHL odds.

Chicago Blackhawks (8-5-4) vs Detroit Red Wings (4-10-3)

  • When: Wednesday,  7:30 p.m. ET
  • Where: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, MI
  • TV: NBCSN

Blackhawks Heating Up

Chicago (11-6 ATS) has won two straight and five of six including a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over Detroit on Monday. Dominik Kubalik scored his second goal of the game 4:43 into overtime to lift Chicago to the win.

“It wasn’t our best, but we still found a way to win it and that’s huge,” Kubalik said.

Kubalik and Mattias Janmark gave the Blackhawks a two-goal lead in the first period before Detroit chipped away to even it before the end of regulation.

The Blackhawks have limited the opposition to two goals or less in four of their last six wins. Chicago is ranked 17th in scoring (2.9 gpg) and an identical 17th in goals allowed (2.9 gpg). The Blackhawks are 3-3-3 on the road this season.

Red Wings Desperate

Detroit (11-6 ATS) has lost three of its last four including Monday’s loss.  Center Vladislav Namestnikov scored with 14.1 seconds left in the opening period and defenseman Christian Djoos tied the score early in the third.

“It’s nice to get a point, but we have to find a way to score more goals and get two points,” Detroit captain Dylan Larkin said.

Goalie Thomas Greiss made 21 saves for the Red Wings, but it wasn’t enough.

“I think we’ve been a better team lately,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. “We’ve adjusted some minutes to spread things out and be more of a four-line team.”

The Red Wings have gone 2-3-2 at home this season. Detroit ranks a discouraging 30th in scoring (2.1 gpg) and 22nd in goals allowed (3.2 gpg).

Expert Analysis and Prediction

Detroit has been mostly awful at both ends of the ice and Chicago is playing its best hockey of the season right now. Still, I’m going with the Red Wings because they are playing at home and are completely desperate for a victory. Combine that with the fact that Chicago isn’t really elite in any aspect and I’ve got Detroit coming out on top.

Chicago has won seven of the last eight meetings in this long-standing rivalry, but the Blackhawks are also just 3-10 in their 13 road games. Detroit wins a nail-biter.

Pick: Detroit 3, Chicago 2
