Avalanche Pushing for Presidents’ Trophy
If this game took place in the early 2000s, there’s no question it would be the best game of the night. However, it’s 2022, and the runaway Colorado Avalanche welcome the rebuilding New Jersey Devils. Colorado is a solid +350 favorite to win the Stanley Cup, according to NHL odds.
The Devils, though, have consecutive wins (Dallas and Arizona) to begin this five-game road trip. Meanwhile, the perpetually-hot Avalanche have won their last seven games. Colorado is the heavy -275 NHL odds favorite with the moneyline in this contest.

Devils Planning for the Future
This year’s New Jersey Devils team has been near the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. A lackluster 58 points has Jersey a point ahead of the cellar-dwelling Philadelphia Flyers.
The Devils’ recent success is due in large part to the development of their core of young team leaders. Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier lead the team with 68 and 57 points, respectively, while Jack Hughes has been shut down for the remainder of the season.
Though New Jersey has a losing record, it’s hovering near .500 (35-38) against the puck line.
Colorado Isn’t Done Yet
The Avalanche currently have 112 points, giving them a slim, two-point lead over the Florida Panthers in a match-race for the Presidents’ Trophy. Both teams have played 73 games. While being the best team during the regular season doesn’t guarantee a Stanley Cup, it’s a reward for the hard work put in by the players, coaches and management.
Colorado is currently second in the NHL in goals per game, with an average of 3.84. With snipers scattered throughout the roster, it’s difficult for any opposing defenses.
The three-headed monster of Nathan Mackinnon (82 points), Mikko Rantanen (87 points) and Nazim Kadri (57 assists) leads the Avalanche to new heights. They have a 50-12 record as the favorites this season.
Devils vs Avalanche Head-to-Head
The New Jersey Devils surprisingly took the previous game against Colorado this season, 5-3 in Newark early in March. The Colorado Avalanche had a 3-0 lead but surrendered the next five goals. A small sample, but the past two games between these teams have gone over the total.

Devils vs Avalanche Prediction
There aren’t many similarities here, though both Jersey and Colorado do have their share of scorers (the latter more than the former). The over/under for this game is set at 6½ goals, as both of these teams average more than three goals per game. With the over currently priced at -125, that’s the play to make.
