Devils vs Blue Jackets: Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds, Picks & Predictions

The New Jersey Devils and Columbus Blue Jackets run it back with the game switching over to Columbus’ side. Based on the latest news, stats, and injury reports, not much has changed but Columbus gets the chalk on the NHL betting odds thanks to their home-ice advantage. Can they find a way to cool off the red-hot Devils?

New Jersey Devils vs Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Are Home Cooking

Home-ice advantage is a slippery concept in the NHL, but it’s textbook with the Columbus Blue Jackets. This embattled team is 10-5-1 at home (5-0 as a favorite) and 11-5 on the puck line. Compare that to being just 5-11 on the road.

Columbus sees an uptick to its scoring when playing on home ice where the Blue Jackets are +7 in goal differential despite getting outshot by almost five per game. Alexandre Texier has nine of his 11 goals in Columbus. Gustav Nyquist has scored five of his seven here.

But the added scoring punch does little to remedy how lackadaisical Columbus is on defense. This team is giving up the most shots at home and they don’t have the elite netminding to bail them out. Still, with the potent offense, Columbus has sports betting opportunities at home.

Jack Hughes Leads Devils’ Resurgence

The Devils have been on a roll and it’s mainly thanks to their young superstar: Jack Hughes. The former first overall pick has been on a tear and has scored 11 points in his last five games.

New Jersey is 5-0 when Hughes has a multi-point game and the Devils are beating some decent teams in this stretch: Edmonton and Washington. They even played Boston close up until the final half of the third period.

As long as Hughes keeps this up, and the eyeball test supports that he can, the Devils will be an entertaining underdog to bet online. If only they could fix their power play and their netminding.

New Jersey Devils vs Columbus Blue Jackets Prediction

It’s interesting seeing New Jersey at plus money here. The betting history supports Columbus as it has beaten New Jersey five straight times at Nationwide Arena. But this is the hottest Devils team the Blue Jackets would have faced and their cavalier idea of “defending” plays right into New Jersey’s hands.

New Jersey is only 5-9-2 on the road but Hughes is still averaging a point per game in eight road games. He got hot in Buffalo and Washington and against Columbus’s inferior defense, he should be a star. Find a prop bet on him to score a point as the Devils spring the upset.

Pick: New Jersey Devils +110

This one seems fairly obvious. Barring a Vezina-like performance from either Mackenzie Blackwood or Joonas Korpisalo, this should be a shootout. New Jersey’s and Columbus’s road and home games have a similar split: 11 of 16 have gone over. The high scoring continues.

Pick: Over 6 (-120)

Parlay: Devils and Over 6 at +285
